“October is the opal month of the year. It is the month of glory, of ripeness. It is the picture-month.” -Henry Ward Beecher
I love that phrase — “October, picture month.” It really does show off, doesn’t it?
And a few other things that feel like October —
fall romances — light on plot, heavy on trope
flushed cheeks (fake it with this)
throw blankets – these are the best (we just got a second one because we always fought over who got this! and the brand just sent me a code: JEN15 for 15% off!)
the Dutch oven living on the stove
seasonal scents like this and this
stocking up on warm spices for fall baking
a tote bag full of library books
first chance to wear a wool coat (upgrade pick: Jenni Kayne) and cashmere scarf (look for less: Quince)
dudley stephens fleece turtlenecks (25% off with JENNIFER25)
shoes in suede and more suede

COAT // SCARF // BOOTS // SPICE HOUSE CINNAMON // RUE DE VERNEUIL TOTE // EMBERS CANDLE // VERONICA BEARD SNEAKER (RESTOCKED!) // AMAZON LAMP // FITZGERALD BOOK // AMAZON THROW

LA LIGNE SWEATER // WOODLAND SPICE HAND SOAP // KNIT PANTS // STAUB COCOTTE // GOOP COLORBLUR LIP/CHEEK STAIN // BUSINESS CASUAL // HOTEL LOBBY NAPA CANDLE // CHAPPYWRAP THROW (15% OFF WITH JEN15) // ROTHYS CLOGS
I also wanted to mention that a) Everlane is offering 25% off through Sunday — my top picks here! I love the look of these cord utility barrel pants; and b) Target’s Deal Days are underway and I found multiple seriously chic things to contemplate, starting with these brown jeans, which are a great look for less for my Veronica Beard Taylors (but only $20!). Also, my favorite inexpensive bed sheets are included in the sale — these are SO GOOD. I bought them as “back ups” for our primary bedroom, and now I just alternate liberally with sets that are 5-6x as expensive! Not included in the promo, but this ecru canvas tote reminded me so much of the ones from Rue De Verneuil.

WIDE LEG BROWN JEANS // ECRU TOTE // COZY CREWNECK // BEST INEXPENSIVE SHEETS // CHIC CANDLE
P.S. Continuing with our game, what would October’s alt title be?
P.P.S. If you’re new in these parts, come introduce yourself here!
P.P.P.S. A playlist for quiet work, and thoughts on deep play.
October’s Party
by George Cooper
October gave a party,
The leaves by hundreds came —
The Chestnuts, Oaks and Maples,
And leaves of every name.
The sunshine spread a carpet,
And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing,
Professor Wind the band.
The Chestnuts came in yellow,
The Oaks in crimson dressed;
The lovely Misses Maple
In scarlet looked their best;
All balanced to their partners,
And gaily fluttered by;
The sight was like a rainbow
New fallen from the sky.
Then, in the rustic hollow,
At hide-and-seek they played,
The party closed at sundown,
And everybody stayed.
Professor Wind played louder;
They flew along the ground;
And then the party ended
In jolly ” hands around. “
OMG! Thanks for sharing this!
This mood board is my favorite! I want to dive right into this version of October. Even though I’m in Michigan, we haven’t cooled off enough for sweaters or coats…but it’s coming so I might spend part of my weekend pulling out everyone’s warmer clothes. I finally replaced my crumbling Haflinger clogs with a new pair and they are in heavy rotation around the house!
Love!! This post put me in the mood for October too!
