Mr. Magpie’s Weekend Must-Haves.

By: Jen Shoop

I’m working on a Magpie Mail post at the moment (if you have questions, feel free to email me at jennifer@thefashionmagpie.com) and it always amuses me to see the ones that inquire after Mr. Magpie — his perspective on sharing household duties, his recommendations for kitchen gear, his favorite winter coat, etc. Today, I thought I’d share a few of his favorite products for a lovely weekend at home — i.e., non-working, non-dressy Mr. Magpie. All of these would make great gifts for spouses/important men in your life, but many of them are great to own regardless of gender!

TECHNOVORM MOCCAMASTER (OURS IS WHITE) — MR. MAGPIE USED TO MAKE POUROVER COFFEE EVERY MORNING, BUT THIS HAS MADE OUR A.M. ROUTINE MUCH MORE EFFICIENT (AND IS HANDIER WHEN WE HAVE GUESTS!)

CLOUDKNIT JOGGERS

KIEHL’S FACIAL FUEL MOISTURIZER

JACK BLACK BEARD LUBE

BUCK MASON SHIRTS

MAGNATILES AND THIS CAT BALANCING GAME (HE OFTEN SPENDS TIME PLAYING WITH THESE WITH MINI ON WEEKEND MORNINGS)

BACON FROM DICKSON’S FARMSTAND

VEJA V12 SNEAKERS (HE OWNS THEM IN THE OLIVE COLOR)

TODD SNYDER SLIM-FIT TWILL PANTS (I LOVE THE WAY THESE FIT HIM)

MARVIS TOOTHPASTE

PERSOL FOLDING SUNGLASSES (HE OWNS THEM IN THE HAVANA TORTOISE COLORWAY — THIS IS THE PAIR STEVE MCQUEEN WORE!)

TOD’S LOAFERS (SO MANY GREAT STYLES ON SALE HERE!!!)

SIR JACK’S OYSTER SHELL BELT BUCKLE

APPLE HOMEPOD (BOTH OF US ARE CONSTANTLY USING SIRI AND APPLE MUSIC…)

M&G COLLAR AND LEASH FOR LONG WALKS WITH TILLY THROUGH THE PARK

WE HAVE EVERY KITCHEN APPLIANCE AND TOOL UNDER THE SUN (OUR MUST-HAVES HERE), BUT TWO OF HIS NEW FAVORITE TOYS: THE CHEF’S PRESSES (WHICH HE USES ALL THE TIME TO GET A PERFECT MAILLARD WHEN COOKING IN OUR CAST-IRON SKILLET, WHETHER STEAKS OR REUBENS ON NEW YEAR’S DAY) AND HIS SOUS-VIDE

RL SHORT SLEEVE AND LONG SLEEVE POLOS (HE OWNS THEM IN LITERALLY EVERY COLOR)

WE ARE BOTH OBSESSED WITH THE LATEST ADDITION TO OUR COOKBOOK LIBRARY — EVERYTHING HAS BEEN EXCELLENT

COCKTAILS FROM DEATH & CO (HE ESPECIALLY LIKES “THE HOUSE OF PAYNE” COCKTAIL — A VARIATION ON A NEGRONI, BELOW)

House of Payne: Or, Mr. Magpie Unplugged

3 raspberries

1.5 oz Beefeater gin

1 oz Plymouth sloe gin

1 oz campari

1 raspberry for garnish

In a mixing glass, gently muddle the raspberries. Add the remaining ingredients and stir over ice. Double strain into a double rocks glass over 1 large ice cube. Garnish with the raspberry.

Mr. Magpie uses these ice molds and this brilliantly-designed jigger and he often drinks this cocktail out of one of these etched-fish old fashioned glasses.

P.S. A lot of reasons why I love Mr. Magpie and a love letter to Mr. Magpie on our nine-year anniversary.

P.P.S. Sprucing up the home.

P.P.P.S. A good price on polo shirts for baby boys (Hill has a navy and a white in basically every size),

  1. Such good recommendations here! We currently do pour-overs with our Hario setup, but I imagine when we have a larger kitchen/more counter space, we’ll want to upgrade to a proper coffeemaker. Thanks for this rec!

I love that you guys use Apple Music — my brother got me hooked on it and the rest of my family & friends are Spotify people, and I always get good-natured grief from them for it! Haha.

That cat balancing game looks so cute — definitely bookmarking that for my niece, who has two cats at home & will definitely appreciate it 🙂

Also, a vote of confidence for Veja sneaks — I have the V-10 and the Esplar (a lower-profile lace-up that I wear in summer) and they are so well-made. I love the sustainability aspect as well!

Also: Marvis toothpaste is the best & it’s the only kind I travel with!

    xx
