+LINDA PASTAN MORNING POETRY: I’ve been reading a lot of Linda Pastan this week — did you know she was the poet laureate of Maryland for a time? This poem, titled “Things I Didn’t Know I Loved” leapt off the page at me. It reminded me of the surprise of discovering how much I love the Mid-Atlantic, which I wrote about here this week. This is from her beautifully-titled book, Queen of a Rainy Country. I ordered two new “morning poetry” books this week, too: more Mary Oliver and this Wendell Berry. Can’t recommend this practice more if you’re looking for a small way to find stillness at the top of the day. Poetry demands patience. It’s one of those sisters of time!
