Holiday Dressing.

By: Jen Shoop

The holidays are just around the corner.  Below, my favorite picks for festive attire:

Holiday Blouses + Sweaters.

SILK BOW BLOUSE — AS CHIC WITH JEANS AS IT WOULD BE WITH A VELVET PENCIL SKIRT

THIS $50 SEQUIN STUNNER IS THE ANSWER TO YOUR WHAT-TO-WEAR-TO-AN-EVENING-OUT QUESTIONS

ADORE THIS LACE-TRIM SWEATER, ESPECIALLY IN THE GREEN!

THIS SAUCY TANK BENEATH A FEATHERED BOLERO = 100 100 100 100

Holiday Dresses + Jumpsuits.

IN LOVE WITH THIS CYNTHIA ROWLEY CONFECTION; GET THE LOOK FOR LESS WITH THIS CHIC J. CREW STEAL

PLAYFUL, JOHANNA-ORTIZ-ESQUE JUMPSUIT FOR $100!

I PREVIOUSLY DESCRIBED THIS SPAGHETTI-STRAPPED TARTAN DRESS AS KATE-MOSS-MEETS-CHARLOTTE-YORK AND I STAND BY THAT DESCRIPTION (I CONSIDER IT A COMPLIMENT)

THIS VELVET DRESS LOOKS LIKE A SALONI (<<THIS ONE IS ON SALE!) — BUT COSTS FAR LESS!

BE THE TWINKLE OF EVERYONE’S EYE

I AM STILL HUNG UP ON THIS REDVALENTINO AND THIS NEEDLE & THREAD — THOUGH NEITHER ARE PARTICULARLY “HOLIDAY”!

ADORE THIS SWEATER DRESS; GET THE LOOK FOR LESS WITH THIS OR THIS

Festive Accessories.

LOVE THIS VELVET BOW CLUTCH IN NAVY (UNDER $70!)

THESE MESH DOT PUMPS WITH THEIR ELEGANT KITTEN HEELS SCREAM LEE RADZIWILL

DYING OVER THESE EARRINGS IN THE GREEN!

THIS BOW-TIE FAUR FUR COAT IS EVERYTHING

P.S. Have been trying to convince Mr. Magpie to wear this for three years running.

P.P.S.  I loved your reactions to this post; so many of you wrote to say: “We are twins!”  I have also had a lot of readers emailing me to say how much this meant to them.  Feeling fortunate to have a tribe of like-minded women going through the same evolutions and internal struggles as I am.  Love to you all.

P.P.P.S.  Thinking of resurrecting my women of substance series.  Any nominations?!

  1. Oooh, so many good picks here! I love that Philosophy dress and the J.Crew velvet tartan number … love how you’ve described it as well.

I have a christening to attend over the holidays and struggled to find something to wear — I have a new leopard midi skirt I’ve been itching to wear, but that didn’t seem right — so I ended up finding a beautiful silver Tory Burch long-sleeved sweater dress, which I’ll wear with black tights + high-heeled black booties. It’s festive but also modest enough!

  2. I didn’t realize so many women had commented on the Pressure is a Choice post! I sent the link to my husband and he responded “I feel like you wrote this.” Very on point for my life as well.

    1. So glad it resonated! I was surprised, too. Makes me wonder if we’re a whole generation of women running around with the weight of the world on our shoulders…xo
