I am always startled by how many of you are shopping for lighting and rugs for your homes when I solicit your shopping inquiries, but it makes sense — I was totally overwhelmed hunting for a desk lamp two years ago. It took me weeks to settle on one! Since then, I’ve been saving good lighting as I find it so that I have a cache of good picks whenever I’m next in the market, which will be…soon! We have not yet bought a house but we will have been down to D.C. for two day trips in a week to consider a range of houses that are well in the ballpark of what we are looking for. Below, some of my favorite lamps…

  1. Love so many of these. My master bedroom needs a new light, but I don’t think I can bear to give up my overhead fan… I know they’re not so chic, but if you happen to stumble across any good options, would love to see! Sometimes good sleep outweighs decor and I will cling to my fan forever…

    1. Oh no I love a good ceiling fan. And I think you can find good-looking ones — I’ve seen ones with rattan blades that just MAKE a room. I was just in a house last week that had an overhead fan in the family room that was incredibly stylish — wish I’d thought to look at the brand. I’ll keep my eyes out!

  2. Thank you for this post – you have such great taste! We close on our first house in two weeks (!!!), and it has been overwhelming (and exciting!) trying to sort out exactly what projects to tackle first. Light fixtures are definitely on the list at some point, so I bookmarked some of these for once we are in our new space and I can better visualize/measure everything.

Have you done a similar rug round up recently?

    1. Congrats, Megan! Hoping to follow in your footsteps soon. So glad these were good picks for you! I do have a roundup of great rugs here, though it is from a year ago so let me know if you are looking for something specific and happy to find some fresh finds:

I did recently come across this bleached jute rug that would be great for a more casual (large) area:

Can’t beat the pricepoint. It would go great with the Serena and Lily coastal vibe, striped upholstery, etc!

    2. I’ll chime in a recommendation from my own buying experience a few years ago. If you have plans to repaint anything, try to do it before you move in. It makes a big difference in both ease of the task and feeling like the home is fresh and new!
