WOOM BIKES // GLOBE // LEGO SET // SNAP CIRCUITS SET // OWALA WATER BOTTLE // CUSTOM “TICKETS” TO DISNEY // JANSPORT BACKPACK

The big gift this year is — tickets to Disney! My kids have been begging for ages and we feel like their ages are perfect (5 and 7). Itinerary/plans still in formation but this is the big one. Any suggestions on how to “wrap” this welcome: I know there are many creative videos along these lines all over the Internet — Mickey ears, etc? My top thought right now is one of these custom “tickets” for the trip — they can each unwrap!

The big gift from Santa will be Woom bikes! This one for my son; this one for my daughter. If you have these bikes and don’t love them, don’t tell me — lol. (I already ordered them!) We did a lot of research and kept landing here. Mini needs a new helmet (she’s outgrown her Banwood — I think they make the best prints/styles for young kids), and a few in contention are this Smith, this Thousand (the cutest of the litter), this Linus, and the Giro Scamp. The Smith and Giro are the sportier picks; I think she’ll outgrow the Linus within a year or two from a style standpoint. I can’t decide!

My girl specifically asked for this Lego set, a journal (I’m giving her this one), a Jansport backpack (!!!! what comes around goes around — I had one too at her age), an Owala water bottle, and Squishmallows (she has many of the bigger ones so we got her a mini Squishville set).

She also asked for books (specifically Roald Dahl and Charlotte’s Web) and “arts and crafts stuff.” We had fun in this last category — Mr. Magpie found her this Klutz eraser making kit and a comic book making set (she’s big into drawing her own comics), while I got her these cool paintbrush tip pens my friend recommended and these layering markers from Ooly.

My son asked for a globe (!!!) and the brand Replogle came top recommended in my research, so I got him this one; Legos (we got him this Pirate ship); and a puzzle (we got him this Lego minifigure themed one).

He’s very into puzzles and Magnatiles, so we wanted to find him more STEM-type toys that require him to fit pieces together — Mr. Magpie ordered him a Snap Circuits set and a Gravitraxx set that honestly Mr. Magpie can’t wait to play with (can you tell he’s an engineer by training?). He said he first found both of these in a hobby store he loves to take my son to out in Rockville and has been waiting for the day they might be age appropriate for him. We also got him a few books and some Ooly markers, too.

What are you getting your children this year?

P.S. Stocking stuffers for kids.

P.P.S. My top rec for making gift-giving as pleasant and stress free as possible: order early and then plan one or two “wrap nights” where you put on music or a holiday movie, mix up a batch of cocktails and snacks, and hang with your spouse while wrapping!

P.P.P.S. If you could go back to school to study anything you’d like, what would it be?

  1. I understand that the Giro is the safest of the bunch, though of course the safest helmet is the one your kid actually will wear properly!

My baby daughter is getting bath toys, tiny books, cookies, a piano I decoupaged, realistic toy animals, fisher price little people, a pink race car, stuff for her room, a mermaid doll with hair she can brush, a fidget dinosaur, a toy cupcake set with shape matching,

My son is getting a dollhouse and furniture including a washing machine that really spins, dress up stuff, a Spiderman hat, a copy of the Grinch, the Melissa & Doug shave kit with fake beard, a tape measure, lots of tiny gummy candies, chapstick, a Learning Resources Bolt Buddies helicopter, die cast Cars racers (bought secondhand), little adventures doll clothes (fireman and woody)

  2. My husband got me a small frog squishmallow and I LOVE it.. I get the hype haha. He got me another large one within a month. I’m a kid at heart… the little faces are so cute and bring me so much joy.

  3. Totally off topic. Apologies. But, I have to say: THAT ORANGE GARLAND FROM AMAZON IS THE BEST! I ordered at your suggestion and, wow! The garland looks fabulous and smells heavenly. Thanks for the tip!

  4. Your kids are going to LOVE the woom bikes! They are seriously the very best kids bikes imho. We have purchased every single size from 1-4 so far and just keep passing them down through our three kids. A new woom 4 will be under our tree this year for our six-year old and a #2 “recycled” under the tree for my middle. We just stick with the red color and I can’t get wait to get my 18 month old daughter on the #1 soon so they can be a little red bike gang. Unsolicited advice: if you need any additional stocking stuffers woom makes a great bike bell. Wow I sound like I work for woom. I guess this is peak middle age, when you get really excited to talk about children’s bicycles.

  5. I love that the big item is a trip to Disney! I agree that they are the perfect age to appreciate all of the magic. How exciting! A friend of mine wrapped a gift box with ears (I love this etsy shop for gorgeous ears https://www.etsy.com/shop/sewsouthernbycc ) and the look on the kiddos face when they opened it and then worked out what it meant was priceless. I hope you have a fantastic time!

  6. So exciting about your trip to Disney! A wrapping suggestion: last year someone gave us a Disney countdown for Christmas and it was very helpful! Just a 5×7 pic frame with a printout (ours was similar to this https://www.pinterest.com/pin/free-disney-world-countdown-printable–138978338489011299/) framed and a dry erase marker attached by string. The kids get to write how many days on the glass of the frame. Also, you probably already know this, but you need to make reservations sooner than you think! Especially if you are not staying at a Disney property.

Our girls are getting matching bunny/puppy toys that they spotted at target while we were shopping for our Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. Also matching fleece lined leggings, owala water bottles, cozy socks, hair bows, and of course scotch tape 🙂 We choose to go light on presents since they get so many from other family.

    1. Ooo love this countdown idea! Thank you!

Great gifts for your girls. Where did you find the fleece lined leggings?

      xx

  7. A vote for Giro scamp. I would lean toward options with a bit of a lip in front to protect her face. I’ve seen the Giro do it’s job during an unexpected face-plant. I still cannot believe she came out unscathed. I was fully expecting blood or even broken teeth. I ran over to assess the damage and not a scratch.
