What I’d Wear, Vol V.

By: Jen Shoop

A friend of mine recently paid me the BEST compliment: she sent me a photo of herself wearing these Mother jeans and this belt and said: “this entire look is Jen-inspired.” Pinch me! I told her that I use these posts to inspire my own outfit styling, too; it’s helpful to pre-imagine what might look good with what.

For example, last weekend, Landon and I went out on a date night and I really wanted to wear a silky camisole-style top or dress. The notion came straight from the brand Cami NYC — I have this and the matching pants in my cart right now (imagine with a cashmere wrap or a velvet blazer) — and I wound up wearing a Rixo dress similar to this (all outfit details and other options here) but in pale blue from last year to scratch the itch, as seen above. I loved the romantic feel of it and am now imagining an even more fall-forward take on the vibe, as seen below. Just piecing these posts together has crisped these looks up in my mind.

What to Wear: Fall Date Night.

Rev your date night engine by watching Riley Green’s “Worst Way” video. Hehe.

SUEDE JACKET (LOOK FOR LESS HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE) // MAISON LOUIS MARIE PERFUME OIL // RING STACK // CAMI NYC CAMISOLE (MORE STOCK/SIZES HERE) // SUEDE MULES (LOOK FOR LESS HERE) // KHAITE WIDE LEG JEANS (LOOK FOR LESS HERE AND HERE) // VERONICA BEARD WRISTLET BAG

What to Wear: Family Photos.

I love this particular dress for fall family portraits because it has a great fit to it — nips in beneath the bust — and the fringe adds interest and movement. Plus, the colors! Other family portrait dresses I’d consider: this Doen, this The Great, this Julia Amory, this Altuzarra.

CARA CARA DRESS // AURELIA DEMARK PENDANT // LIZZIE FORTUNATO CUFF // PARIS TEXAS BOOTS // LA COQUETA DRESS // VELVET MARY JANES // RL CABLEKNIT SWEATER // MALLARD PRINT CORDS // SUEDE LOAFERS

What I’d Wear: Lunch with Mom.

ALEX MILL CARDIGAN // CARA CARA TURTLENECK (LOOK FOR LESS HERE, HERE, HERE) // AGOLDE JEANS (LOOK FOR LESS HERE) // FAUX SUEDE WOVEN BAG // LIZZIE FORTUNATO EARRINGS // TORY BURCH SNEAKERS (LOOK FOR LESS HERE)

What I’d Wear: Fall Cocktails.

I love the vibe of this look for something like a museum event, a lecture, a special trunk show, etc! The textures and colors are so rich and interesting.

ALEX MILL CASHMERE POLO SWEATER (LOOK FOR LESS HERE, HERE) // LOEWE BAG (LOOK FOR LESS HERE) // LEATHER EFFECT SKIRT (LOOK FOR LESS HERE) // DORSEY PARACORD NECKLACE // PRADA HEELS (VIBE FOR LESS HERE)

What to Wear: Pilates-to-Coffee.

A Magpie reader wrote me with this specific request: how to transform a gym look to a meet-up-with-friends look? Cool outerwear is the answer! Lots of great statement fleeces here. A friend of mine arrived at a coffee date last week wearing the cutest little Bottega bag (look for less here), and I was so inspired by the look — casual everywhere else but the bag!

SEA FAIR ISLE FLEECE (ON SALE HERE, MORE SIZES HERE) // VARLEY LEGGINGS // CROWN AFFAIR DRY SHAMPOO // RACHEL COMEY SNEAKERS // BOTTEGA CROSSBODY (LOOK FOR LESS HERE, HERE)

What to Wear: Visit the Classroom.

Whether you’re reading to your kindergartener’s class or helping out with hot lunch, a cute fall outfit for a school visit —

HILL HOUSE DRESS // VERONICA BEARD CARDIGAN (LOOK FOR LESS HERE) // JENNIFER BEHR NECKLACE // GAP BAG // TUCKERNUCK FLATS

What to Wear: Fall Fundraiser.

I can’t get over the draping and spectacular topaz color of this under-$250 gown. Just spectacular! Meanwhile, tassels and fringe are seriously in this season and I’m in love with this interesting clutch as a way to jump on the trend.

ACLER DRESS // RIXO DINNER JACKET // JENNIFER BEHR EARRINGS // AQUAZZURA MULES // CULT GAIA CLUTCH

What to Wear: Fall Black Tie.

This is a mega splurge outfit but I really had to find a way to spotlight this set, just for fun.

AGUA BENDITA TAFFETA TOP // AGUA BENDITA SKIRT // THEIA STOLE // DORSEY EARRINGS // PRADA VELVET BAG // GIANVITO ROSSI MULES

P.S. The kinds of people to hang onto.

P.P.S. What gives you a deep sense of wellbeing?

P.P.P.S. Music for a dinner party.
