I’ve written about this in little fits and starts over the past week, but I’m getting organized for upcoming travel and thought I’d share all my finds / buys / purchases in one place. Some of these I’ve had for a long time, and others are new, based on Magpie reader recs. I also revisited my thoughts on making travel days easier here, and reviewed your tips, too…

MANTA SLEEP MASK

NOISE CANCELING HEADPHONES

UNIVERSAL TRAVEL ADAPTER

HAND SANITIZING SPRAY

TRAVEL MIRROR

URSA MAJOR FACE WIPES

BYREDO ROLL-ON PERFUME

CASHMERE TRAVEL WRAP

DAGNE DOVER LANDON TOTE

A MILLION POUCHES — LOVE THESE ROOMY ONES FROM PEHR, AND THIS CLEAR, HARD-SIDED ONE FOR COSMETICS

CALPAK TECH ORGANIZER

SPARE HAIR CLIPS

BIG POUCH FOR PASSPORTS, TICKETS, BAG TAGS, ETC

Also wanted to mention in the context of this travel post that InnBeauty is offering 20% off their sets this week, and I just ordered this set of their full-size and travel-size Extreme Cream. Mr. Magpie and I both use this moisturizer daily and one of my big takeaways from asking you how you handle skincare while traveling is that it’s often the best idea to just buy the travel version of the products you love because they come in the right packaging and you aren’t wasting product / rushing to decant into travel tubes. (I’ve also had several beauty products dry up / go stale in those tubes before being finished!). Anyway, this InnBeauty bundle was a no brainer, especially while all sets this week are 20% off — it basically means you get the travel sized cream for $7 (vs retail at $22).

I’m planning on wearing my Tuckernuck cashmere sweatsuit (mine is gray — now available in other great colors, like olive green!) and VB sneaks (slip on!) for travel day. A visual guide below…!

GAP SWEATER AND PANTS // AMAZON HAIR CLIPS // DAGNE DOVER TOTE // PARAVEL SUITCASE // CELINE PHONE SLING // GAP COAT // VERONICA BEARD SNEAKERS // TARGET SOCKS

CASHMERE TRAVEL WRAP // CALPAK TECH ORGANIZER // NOISE CANCELING HEADPHONES // MANTA SLEEP MASK // PEHR POUCHES // KINDLE // NITECORE EXTERNAL PHONE BATTERY // TRUFFLE FLAT ORGANIZING POUCH // UNIVERSAL TRAVEL ADAPTER // SUMMER FRIDAYS JET LAG SPRAY // SUMMER FRIDAYS LIP BUTTER // HAND SANITIZER // COSMETICS POUCH

P.S. More generally, how do you stay organized?

  1. Love the Gap set for WFH days! May I also add knee high compression socks to this list — I’ve tried them for my past 2 international trips and I do feel like they make a difference. I got a 2-pack at Target, I believe it’s their house brand “All in Motion”.

  2. Hi! Can you confirm that the InnBeauty full size IS full size? My understanding is the full size is 1.7 oz, but the item description says 1 oz. & .5 for the travel). Thank you!!!

  3. What does Landon use for phone, wallet, etc? I hear pickpocketing is a concern and my son is going to Europe in the spring for a 2 week study abroad. Also any men’s shoe recs would be appreciated!

    1. This is a really funny question because when he’s traveling, he keeps his wallet in his front pocket and then promptly panics 123 times an hour when he feels for his wallet in his back pocket and it’s not there. I’m not sure if there’s a better solution unless your son is open to wearing like one of those hidden travel belt things, which aren’t always practical (or attractive).

For shoes, my husband wore his Red Wing boots a lot on this trip. They’re sturdy, waterproof, etc and look really handsome with jeans and cords —

He also wore these sneakers quite a bit:

As well as a pair of suede loafers for dressier dinners.

  4. Question on a Kindle. I had one a long time ago but never replaced it when it broke. I have read that many adults get the children’s Kindle because no ads/ holds up better etc. Do you or any of you readers have advice on this? Adult or children’s for myself. Thank you.

    1. Hi Nancy! I haven’t looked into a kindle for my kids yet (still too young I think) but I cannot rec the Kindle more for you! It’s such a great single-use device. When I have it, I’m not distracted by incoming emails, checking apps, etc! They battery lasts a very long time and it’s featherweight / so easy to carry and hold. I also love using her at night!!

  5. Great list and enjoy your trip. I would add compression socks instead of regular socks for the flight. They now come in so many cute styles. Also, consider adding a packable down vest or coat to your Italy packing. We just returned from a long weekend in NYC. I packed my Burberry quilted barn jacket and wished that I had included a packable puffer vest or down jacket. It felt so much cooler in the morning and dinner. So many New Yorkers were wearing them on bagel runs.

    1. Thank you so much!! I def agree that having extra layers is smart. There were some days where I’d vacillate between three layers in the morning and one layer in the sun!

      xx
