Currently in my cart: this Agua Bendita maxi skirt. Its discovery led me to discover a trove of fabulous statement skirts for summer 2022! On the wallet-friendlier side, let me highlight this $25 gauze steal — a Magpie just wrote me to rave about how comfortable and on-trend it is! — as well as this $110 white statement that reminds me of something from Miguelina. I love pairing high-waisted skirts with these FP tanks — currently on sale for $20 in a range of colors here!

P.P.S. I’ve received so many interesting notes and emails in response to this post on female friendships. In one, a Magpie wrote: “…we aren’t taught to mourn or recognize the ending of female friendships the same way we are with romantic relationships. [My friend] pointed out that if someone were to ask about a former best friend, we might be embarrassed or not know how to explain that the friendship has ended. Meanwhile if it was an unsuspecting question about a now ex, it would feel more normal or comfortable to simply say “we broke up” and everyone would nod, understand and move on. I thought that was a good insight.” Super interesting! I hadn’t thought about this tack.

OMG, Anna’s comment about tiered peasant skirts jolted me back to one I had from Oilily in the early aughts, made out of bandanas! I only donated it like 5 years ago (although I stopped wearing it in like 2006). So funny!
I find that I go through phases with skirts. I typically only wear them in the warm weather (though I do have a dark floral midi from Tibi that I love to wear in the winter, too…) — but find that some summers I totally gravitate towards them (like, 2016-18), and in other summers, I prefer dresses and even shorts (!) I hated shorts when I was younger but really love them now, provided the proportions are right.
BUT this post has me reconsidering the skirt! The Agua Bendita floral one is just beautiful, and the Target one reminds me of the cotton gauze skirt I have from Xirena … I’m going to pull it out soon!

I’m the same, I think. I reach for dresses more often than not but there are seasons where I get super into separates, esp skirts!
The Target one is such a good take on the Xirena vibe!

I’ve been thinking about how much the early-mid 2000s are back and this post really drove the point home! Shoutout to the tiered peasant skirts that were en vogue 20 years ago…I hope some folks out there held onto theirs!
Yes!!! Nothing is new! Unfortunately, I discarded all of mine…
