Mr. Magpie drove one of those boxy black Jeep Cherokees from the 90s when I first met him. He installed subwoofers in the back so that you could hear him coming a few blocks away, blasting Outkast or Tupac (his favorites at the time — this was early 2000s) and looking like an all around bad-ass. I can just picture him now with his UVA hat, polo shirt, the deep tan he gets without even trying (damn him!), looking confident in that All-American, undergraduate way.
Even now, I think back on this and have to say: “What a stud.”
When I think back to the early days of our relationship, his Jeep plays a prominent role: we took many a road trip to/from UVA, drove around Grounds (“Grounds” = campus, to non-Wahoos), and had one of our first kisses standing right next to it.
Why is this relevant today? Because when I went to title this post, the phrase “Party Girl” came to mind — and that’s what affectionally called his Jeep. He was pretty emotional when he chose to sell “Party Girl” just before we moved up to Chicago. So was I. Despite the fact that it got like 2 miles to the gallon and was falling apart and rode like a mechanical bull, she was our Party Girl — a part of the fabric of our early relationship.
So, here’s to you, Party Girl! In your honor, some party girl looks…
+To begin with, this dress (Alice + Olivia, $485). OMG, this dress. She needs to head out to a party STAT.
+And she needs to go to a party with these fun little floral drop earrings ($34).
+And a woven clutch (Serpui Marie, $294).
+My favorite pick for wedged espadrilles (Loeffler Randall, $295).
+Nothing says party like a tabletop pinata ($19).
+Or how about this little OTS lovely ($109)?
+These floral drops ($38) or so fun. Very Frida Kahlo.
+With these party-on-your feet (…weird expression) sandals ($295)? Talk about showing up with bells on!
+Or, how about this fun little frock ($19)?! Yes, you read that price correctly. $19.
+My favorite earrings of the season ($275). Love that they are ombre — pair with pink or red just as easily.
+Joie wedges ($295). (Or check out this more affordable pair from Soludos, $114).
+One of these fab Star Mela clutches ($91).
Other separates that can get you the same look:
+Popsicle orange OTS shirt ($60).
+Embroidered clutch (Serpui Marie, $454).
+J.Crew drops ($75).
+OTS blouse ($10).
+Waves clutch ($127).
+Aquazzura stacked patterned sandals ($875). In a word, epic.
+Knotty Gal necklace ($125) — comes in a host of great vacation-ready colors.
+Fish clutch (Serpui Marie, $268).
+Block print dress (Talitha, $378).
+Charm earrings (Tory Burch, $250).
+Aquazzura sandals ($675).
+Tassels scarf (Bindya, $88).

Last but not least, this whole tabletop/entertaining set from Anthro reminds me a lot of a lot the pieces above — so fun for a Cinco de Mayo or early summer dinner al fresco.
