Magpie x Mamey Motivation Notes!

By: Jen Shoop

I am beyond excited to share that my collaboration with Mamey Design has arrived! We’ve been working for several months to conceptualize and bring to life a thoughtful suite of paper products designed to bring inspiration and motivation to our everyday lives. I have been using samples of these products for the past few weeks and they are not only gorgeous and joy-sparking but highly functional; I know you will love them just as much as I do.

I was specifically interested in creating an eye-catching but not over-wrought habit tracker; you may recall I’d been in the market for one earlier this year as a simple way to keep tabs on using my red light therapy mask, exercising, making time to read (some fun reads for fall here), etc. Marion listened and came back with this spectacular notepad style habit tracker in the prettiest palette. This might be my favorite part of the collection, and it is designed for long-term use: a single pad can last you four years! We’re in this for the long haul, friends. If you love the tracker, snag one early, as we did a limited run; Marion had never sold anything like this before and I wasn’t sure how idiosyncratic I was being!

The other product I have been speaking in exclamation points about: this weekly planning pad. At the beginning of each week, I have been using it to identify just 1-2 “goals of the heart” and 1-2 professional/personal/admin goals for each day of the week. I can’t tell you how helpful this has been during this frenetic back to school season; the top-of-the-week exercise has been wildly clarifying, and then I use the planner as a visual reminder of what really matters throughout the week. It’s helped me drop things that don’t matter and focus on doing the things that do matter to the best of my ability. It’s also tremendously satisfying to get to the end of the week and realize that I’ve stuck to my top level objectives. I might have let a few other balls drop, but I am better able to make peace with those minor failings.

The notepad and sticky notes have been traveling with me in my purse (and living on my desk, too), and every time I glance down at a list, or leave a post-it on my computer, I find the mantras at the top — “Take Things as They Come” and “Go Lightly!” serve as a mini-exhale. You got this!

The back story here: Marion and I both attended the University of Virginia and graduated the same year, her from the Architecture School and myself from the College of Arts and Sciences. Somehow we never crossed paths at UVA despite having many connections and shared friends; it was only years later, after the two of us had separately started our own businesses that a mutual friend asked whether we knew one another, and we instantly connected. Marion has a deep, poetic soul and an incredible eye for design. She is also one of the strongest women I know; I look up to her more than she knows. When I reached out to her with a fledgling thought for some paper products we might be able to design together, I couldn’t believe she said yes! Months later, here we are. I couldn’t be prouder to have collaborated with this fellow Wahoo and true creative spirit. (If you don’t yet order your stationery and other paper products from her, you must!).

As UVA grads, we had to find a way to incorporate The Rotunda into this shoot — ha! (Marion hand painted those!).

Anyhow, I hope you will love these products as much as I do — ! Onward!

The timing of this launch could not be more ideal! I’ve made considerable changes to my health and wellness routine over the past 90 days and ready to take it up a notch. The habit tracker will be the perfect accompaniment on my journey… and the colors will compliment the decor in my home office space nicely, a bonus!
