Jen’s Weekend Drafts: Rainy Day Jazz.

By: Jen Shoop

+RAINY DAY JAZZ + LITTLE WOMEN RUNS: This cozy rainy day jazz mix was just what the doctor ordered during a rainy October Wednesday morning. When the skies cleared later that day, I went for a rare afternoon run (I almost always exercise first thing in the morning) and listened to the soundtrack from Greta Gerwig’s “Little Women.” It was so charming, and thrilling — I moved through so many moods and saw familiar corners with new eyes.

+THE WORLD IS FULL OF MAGIC THINGS: The running experience reminded me of one of my favorite quotes from W.B. Yeats: “The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow stronger.” Yes! The miraculous is out there, waiting to be seen!

THE WORLD IS FULL OF MAGIC THINGS

+IMPERSONATIONS OF VINCE VAUGHN AND JASON BATEMAN DOING NORMAL THINGS: This comedian’s impersonations of Jason Bateman waiting for his prescription to be ready and Vince Vaughn having a beer knocked out of his hand at a sporting event made me LOL. “Well slow down there, baby.” The Internet is so creative!

+DOEN HOLIDAY COLLECTION: Doen dropped the perfect Thanksgiving dress here, and they brought back one of my favorite items in my entire wardrobe from last holiday season: this perfect little blouse. It looks so perfect paired with a black velvet skirt/pair pants!

+THE DUALITY OF A WRITER’S NOTES APP: I thought this post was so on-point. I also have heavy musings and gilded insights jangling up against “buy Lane a birthday gift” and “Emory’s size shoe: 2” in my notes app. But — I’m sure you do, too, whether you are a writer or not: who else has a notes app with things as profound as “grief counselor: Dr. John Matthew” alongside entries as light as “lipcolor: rosewater” in her notes app? This could well be the perfect metaphor for this blog, in fact: the freighted alongside the frivolous. A woman contains multitudes and all of it can hang together here. Let’s talk pants for petites and then how to grieve your dog…!

+EYEING + BUYING:

+This Neptune necklace from the Lizzie Fortunato x Julia Amory collab goes with everything! I wore it three times last week.

+Buck Mason consistently impresses me — I first discovered this brand for my husband (really handsome, well-made, rugged menswear) and have slowly added some of their basics for women to my wardrobe. I just ordered this pointelle henley — it’s a little dressier than my one from Leset and I think will work with suede skirts, chocolate brown cord trousers, etc when I’m going a little more formal. I also love the vintage gym styling of these sweats and the matching sweatshirt.

+Not seen in the photo below, but Spanx did just launch a bunch of corduroy and denim and I love the look of these trousers! Ordered a pair to test. I find their pants run a little small but I still ordered the xs (my true size). Will report back. Also how perfect is this burgundy half-zip from their athletic collection?!

+Everlane’s 30% off sale continues! These barrel cords are just perfect if you prefer this shape to the wide-leg style from Spanx!

+I was just writing about volumizing products for my fine hair, and someone recommended Aveda’s volumizing tonic! Will give this a try and report back, too. I’m having trouble nailing the Oribe stuff. I either use too much or too little? Has anyone else had success?

+Sherpa everything! Love this reversible vest for layering over athleisure or pairing with a thin knit and jeans and you know I’m smitten with this sherpa tote in the small size. It’s just perfect for grabbing to run and get the kids, etc!

+Gorgeous fall prints: this scarf from Ann Mashburn (I like how Julia Amory has been styling her knit sets with big scarves like this) and this Thanksgiving-perfect dress from Doen.
