I saw this hashtag on the Instagram feed of a blogger that I find a little…packaged (?) and slightly…poser-ish (?). I hate throwing shade, but I’m only human. Although…I’m guessing that most bloggers, myself included, come off as packaged and poser-ish. So I should probably heed my mother’s age-old advice: “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.” And so I won’t mention who it is. And I’ll further shame myself by admitting to a very odd behavior: I do not “follow” her on Instagram, but every now and then will sketchily look her up and take a peek at what she’s been posting, and then recoil in disgust. It’s weird, and I don’t like it, and I should probably get a life and stop worrying about it / checking her feed. Or just own up to the fact that I occasionally like to drop in and just click “follow,” because she’s probably more than earned an additional follower based on the amount of time I spend looking at her posts.
Such is the tireless and boring inner monologue of a 30-year-old social media lover. Tell me some of you have been through this?
At any rate, one of her more recent posts involved a hashtag along the lines of the title of this post — a sort of “tee-hee-I-am-sooo-preppy” wink at life. There is something in inauthentic and annoying about this kind of hashtag, so I’m using it with slight irony here.
And yet.
Goddam, do I love a monogram.
Anya Hindmarch recently came out with a genius new creation in the form of these leather letter stickers ($55 apiece):
How rad are these?! You can affix them to any old bag and instantly elevate it from plain tote to high-end heirloom! I love the idea of matching these with a classic Liberty London tote ($595):
Or, how about some of these badboys on a classic Clare Vivier clutch ($119-$202)?
Or, get the look for less with a simple pouchlette in watermelon or mint ($95):
Finally, you could, of course, forgo the leather sticker and snap up one of these smart pre-monogrammed clutches (on sale for $76):
Not in the market for yet another bag? (Said no woman, ever.) I got you covered. Check out these chic mini earrings ($98 each) that you can get in any combination of letters:
This brand (Maya Brenner) also has some elegant customizable necklaces and bracelets ($200-$360) with letters of your choice. (Alternately, if you like a little blingbling, check out these more affordable earrings with a little sparkle, $40/pop.) Lastly, how chic are these little layerable pendant necklaces ($50 each)? Great gift, too…
