Pink and orange are the happiest of companions. I’ve always had a love affair with the color combo — but never moreso than this season, when I’ve seen the two married quite a bit on runways, in home design, and in my favored storefronts. Just take a gander at this bedroom {outfitted in Leontine Linens} and you’ll get the point:
Don’t they play nice together? Or envision yourself attending this cheerful al fresco dinner party {love the Lilly runner}:
Or die over this happy summer arrangement {quelle couleurs!}:
Or, finally, imagine yourself be-decked in color, a la this chic pea:
{Woah. The fishnets may have taken the look a little too far afield, but AY! Those colors are a sight for sore eyes!} Channel the look with a BRIGHT pink shift in an updated cut (Twenty8Twelve, $158, TheOutnet) and a slightly muted-looking statement piece ($23, Modcloth):
I like it with this nifty little roll bag (Meredith Wendell, $595, Net-A-Porter) and those canvas-effect peep toes I featured yesterday by C. Louboutin:
If the idea of a Mattel-pink dress leaves you running for the hills, try the inverse: a neutral dress (love the city safari vibe of this 3.1 Phillip Lim number — on sale for $319, Edit New York) with a hot-pink-and-orange statement necklace ($68, Roberta Chiarella):
Finish with pink-on-orange heels ($365, L.K. Bennett) and a SERIOUS bag (I mean. Bankrupting. HEARTSIES. — Fendi, $4,510, Barney’s):
I’d tie this scarf ($29, LindsayPhillips) around my wrist like a bracelet to tie it all together:
As an alternative, how ’bout this flame-colored dress ($168, Madewell) finished with a pink-and-orange rope-effect necklace ($60, Charm&Chain) and some simple domed gold studs ($55, BingBangNYC):
I’d leave the rest on the neutral side — something like these strappy sandals ($168, American Rag) and a lil bone-hued clutch (OK, so this is really just a “music” pouch for iPod storage, but I so love the perforation and the little tassel, I’d fo sho wear it out! — Anya Hindmarch, $140, Matches):
For something even more casual, check out this layered tank ($60, Topshop) with a bold statement piece ($145, Lauren Elan) and some white skinnies:
Perfecto with these Lanvin wedges (on sale for $871, Kirna Zabete), but keep the clutch on the simple side to avoid color chaos — this white wicker style caught my eye ($28, ModCloth):
If you’re not so much in the mood to wear ankle-breakers on vacay, consider these darling Lanvin espadrilles (on sale for $259, Barney’s):
For beaching it up, I like a BRIGHT pink bikini (Zimmermann, on sale for $123, Net-A-Porter) — or, as an alternative, check out this tangerine-and-orchid colorblocked wonder by Tomas Maier, IT bikini label of the year:
Accents: a pink-on-orange lobster print towel ($25, EchoDesign), a classic canvas tote upgrade with pink and orange trim ($88, LeSportSac), and some orange K. Jacques ($225, Net-A-Porter):
For after-beach wear / covering up, do you not adore this easy-on maxi ($68, TopShop) with these sporty Michael Kors orange-on-pink shades ($85, Nordstrom):
It’s pretty much made to go with this bright-pink-accented raffia bag (Cleobella, on sale for $115, Shopbop), these Sam Edelman gladiators ($99, Heels — I’ve seen Kourtney Kardashian sporting them!):
Other of-the-moment add-ons? These amazing Sergio Rossi “jelly t-straps,” which I spied with my little eye in the Intermix in Georgetown the other day and then promptly pouted for an hour when I discovered their steep price tag ($285? For jellies?! — $285, Intermix):
Ideal with a printed caftan (Antik Batik, on sale for $195, Net-a-Porter) and straw tote ($205, Antik Batik):
Alternately, how about this TDF ikat clutch ($285, Theodora and Callum) and a pair of inexpensive t-straps ($10, Forever21) with a LWD ($65, Aritzia) and pink-on-orange beaded necklace ($98, Nordstrom)?
