Eyelet You In on a Little Secret.

By: Jen Shoop

Oh, bad puns.  Happy Memorial Day!  Hope you are sleeping in late, hanging out on a beach, grilling out hot dogs, and doing all things American.  While you are reading this, I am probably stuck in gridlock traffic somewhere on the Jersey Turnpike…so we’ll turn to happy things: eyelet dresses.  (Also, this perfume, which I received a sample of and have decided to buy — it smells like heaven — and my latest beauty buys.)

The Fashion Magpie Eyelet 4

The Fashion Magpie Eyelet 2

I have a problem with eyelet, broderie anglaise, and embroidery — I am drawn to it in spite of the fact that I most own close to a dozen dresses in this vein.  And yet — there’s always space for one more…

THIS SAUCY V-NECK DRESS IN SUNNY YELLOW

P.S. And for your minis…this dress and this dress, too.

P.P.S.  Are you more into eyelet or this microtrend?

P.P.P.S.  Do you ever feel like a fish out of water?

Love eyelet too (and white lace tops as well), but thinking it’s not so practical these days with the baby (or should I just not care and buy more??)

Ugh, the Turnpike…. though what was always far worse to me was driving through Connecticut. For such a tiny state, it takes FOREVER to get through …. the only redeeming aspects are getting to stop at Stew Leonard’s (the most fun supermarket I’ve ever been to) and Frank Pepe’s for some amazing pizza.

Stop in Wilmington, if you’re headed from NY-DC! Lived there for 6 years and actually ended up loving it. I can give you plenty of recs, depending on what you’re looking for. We also lived in Havre de Grace for just over a year, and that’s just off 95 – worth a stop, at least once.

Good to know re the Aerin perfume. I love love her rose hand cream and so wish she made a matching fragrance. I need to go check them out some time soon.

Good luck with your drive! Having grown up in NJ (but with parents who rarely took the Turnpike except when absolutely necessary), I never understood the state’s unfortunate reputation until I drove from Boston to Maryland once via the NJ Turnpike. Awful! Haha.

I’m so thrilled to hear that the J.Crew dress is of good quality! Adding it to my birthday-dress-contender list. I like that LOFT option, too — I never shop there but maybe it’s time to change my tune? You always have cute picks from there.

I just bought that J Crew dress and am OBSESSED with it. It’s cut beautifully, finished exceptionally well (especially for J Crew), and the eyelet is darling. I’m also so pleased that it is cotton. So many dresses nowdays are blends or just artificial fabrics. Cannot deal with that in DC heat!
