Dad Sandals.

By: Jen Shoop

Dad sandals have been “in” for a couple of seasons now; I’m updating this post from 2023 to include more in-stock examples of this lasting trend. I love the way their heft plays with a trim silhouette or a full skirt — it fits the whole “wrong shoe theory” to a tee. (If you’re not familiar with this concept, the idea is that when you get dressed, you should run in the exact opposite direction of the shoe you’re inclined to select for a cooler, more modern look. For example, sneakers with a dress; boat shoes with a pair of feminine lace shorts.). I now own several pairs — some designer, some not — but I think my favorite pair are the ones seen above, by Tory Burch, and available in several colors and fabrics!

Some really chic takes on the trend below —

You’ll notice there are a lot of Chanel dad sandals seen in the collage above. You can find lots of them pre-owned (some barely worn) on The Real Real — I love hunting for gems here! If you’re liking the look but not up for an investment, this under-$100 “inspired-by Chanel” pair is a sure thing.

P.S. More on my fashion mantra: “A woman contains multitudes. Fashion often reminds me of that truth, in turn urging me not to hem myself in.”

P.P.S. Chic workwear under $200.

I haven’t been able to get those Prada quilted sandals out of my head since seeing them in person recently. Hope the trend continues. Are cowboy boots on the rise as well? Not sure if coincidence but lately have noticed more and more wearing them. A woman at brunch the other day had bright bubblegum pink ones and they were fabulous.

Possibly subconsciously inspired by you, I bought these fisherman-style sandals halfway through our southern hemisphere summer: https://baredfootwear.com/nz/products/fairywren-ecru-leather-flat-sandals – and have spent the rest of summer in shoe heaven, feeling actually cool for once in my life. They go with everything and they’re so comfortable! Unfortunately I don’t think Bared ship to the States but I’m case you have other southern hemisphere readers used to dealing with fashion being unavailable to them (Gap I’m looking at you) they are a great brand to have on your radar.
