Coming Up Roses.

By: Jen Shoop

Hi hi hi!  I’m back after a lovely month plus off focusing on relaxation and family, including 10 days of pure bliss in Aspen, CO.  But I have to tell you about my newest obsession du jour: Into the Gloss.  I’m probably 34 years late to the train here — I had read the blog when it first came out a few years ago, but had forgotten about it somehow.  Big mistake.  I spent the entirety of a sleepless night combing the archives, and then entirety of a paycheck on upgraded skincare products.  Something about turning 31 has led me to be 343x more conscious of my skin.  I have thankfully washed my face every night and worn eye cream diligently since I was about 16 (I swear by Shiseido’s White Lucent Anti-Dark Circles Eye Cream), but I have to admit that I haven’t been particularly mindful of serums/advanced sunscreen/wrinkle prevention/etc.  Reading Into the Gloss, I suddenly became obsessed with roses in errythang.  It’s known for its anti-aging benefits and, plus, it smells phenomenal.  Also, read this and tell me you don’t want to put rose all over everything.  So, the latest battery of goodies to grace my medicine cabinet:

+Fresh rose petal face mask ($62) — incidentally, makes a great gift.  Also curious about this pricy stuff ($162) from high-end line Sisley.

+Chantecaille Rosewater ($65) — a girlfriend of mine turned me onto this stuff.  Spritz it onto cleaned, moisturized skin, or over makeup, or when you need a little pick me up around 4 pm in the afternoon.  It smells phenomenal, moisturizes, and refreshes.  According to Into the Gloss, this much less expensive rosewater spray ($9) from Heritage Store delivers similar results for a fraction of the price.

+I am sorta obsessed with Chantecaille right now, so I majorly contemplated this ultra-luxe rose face cream ($210), but decided against it when I heard insane reviews of Dr. Hauschka’s Rose Light Day Cream ($30 for 1 oz).  People go nuts over this stuff.  And I have to say that it is pret-ty on point.

+Of course, I’ve long been crazy about Fresh’s lip balm ($22).  So moisturizing, beautiful-smelling, and perfectly tinted.

+I’ve been alternating between Diptyque’s Roses candles ($32-$60) and Fresh’s Life candles ($55) this summer.

+L’Occitaine’s rose hand cream ($12) is always in my purse.

Lastly, my biggest advancement of late has been the investment in a rose face oil.  I know, oil on your face?  Wut.  It doesn’t seem right, slash it seems like it’s a recipe for breakout central.  But apparently face oils are incredible for balancing your skin, fighting age, and deep moisturization.  I’ve even been hearing that it helps prevent acne — something about “fighting oil with oil.”  Hm.  So I had to get la creme de la creme, Chantecaille’s highly favorably reviewed Rose de Mai face oil ($185).

Other options if you’re looking to test it without breaking the bank: Laura Mercier’s rose face oil ($62), By Terry’s variation ($106), Fresh’s Seaberry Face oil ($50).

Into bold florals in your closet as well?  I caught sight of the bloggerina behind Something Navy in this Flynn Skye dress and did a quadruple take.  Fun for a romantical night out.

  1. This is a great post!! I honestly love (and use) most of the products you featured, rose is really such a lovely base to any beauty product. I love Fresh Seaberry Face Oil, I use it every morning and night. If you really want to get addicted to amazing products, go to LeVert Beauty’s website, they have all natural, organic products that are simply incredible. Verité Rosehip moisturzer has become my life, it’s so thick and luxurious. I apply it in the morning after my face oil, and I feel moisturized the whole day. I would highly recommend it!
