I’ve been reading Brooke Shields’ memoir on her relationship with her mother, There Was a Little Girl: The Real Story of My Mother and Me ($16). I can’t say it’s particularly well-written (a lot of redundancies and a lot of contradictions…not to mention overall stiff and awkward), but I’ve been into the memoir genre lately and it popped up as a recommendation in Amazon. One element that did grab my attention, though, was the entire vibe of her famous movie, Blue Lagoon.
This in turn led me to re-evaluate my virtual shopping cart, which is currently full of brightly colored caftans and bikinis for the winter getaway I’m dreaming about (not currently actually planned, but, you know. Sometimes it’s the only thing that will get you through a cold winter day.) More specifically, I added to the mix a few of the more natural/earthy-inspired pieces, including this crochet one-piece ($105), these strappy K. Jacques ($265); straw tote (Michael Kors, $595):
Also loving this caftan ($325)
Alternately, how amazing would a crochet knit sweater (Stella McCartney, $1,775 — or get the look for less with this Mango style, on sale for $69 or this gorgeous wonder at LastCall by Neiman Marcus, for only $48) with some denim shorts be ($200)? I’d finish it with tortoise shades (Stella, $270), some espadrilles (Valentino, $895 — get the look for less with these or these or these), and a straw clutch ($185):
Alternately, the inverse — chambray top ($78) and crochet shorts ($60), with mother of pearl shades (Barton Perreira, $395) and this darling clutch ($78):
Love love love love.
We got our first snow in DC today & the drive to work was a disaster! Thanks so much for this post – I can smell the ocean already & I know that’ll help me get through this snowy day! Super cute outfits as always.
Thanks! DC has no idea how to operate in the snow…hopefully you had a day off!
