Poppin Bottles*

By: Jen Shoop

As if this time of year weren’t already full of reasons to celebrate (Christmas in T-5 days, and New Year’s in T-10!), I received a big promotion last week at work (!), and I’ve been in “celebration” mode since.  After my boss broke the news, Mr. Magpie greeted me at home with the most gourmet “congratulations to us!” meal imaginable: a variety of oysters from our favorite fish purveyor (and restaurant), Black Salt, paired with Kluge Blanc de Blancs bubbly, and then made-from-scratch paella with monkfish, manila clams, and super-fancy chorizo, paired with a scrumptious Spanish Albarino.  It was almost better than hearing the good news from my boss!

I’ve been strutting around with a little extra pep in my step since, and I must admit that it’s heavily informed my wardrobe decisions over the past few days.  I’m gravitating towards a palette of champagne, shimmer, and metallics.  I almost wanted to change into a festive cocktail dress for our meal last week, and I had something like this Stella McCartney number in mind ($1,982, MyTheresa):

I’d let the dress do the talking, only pairing with some appropriately festive studs (l.o.v.e. — $70, Emily Elizabeth), a straight-forward nude clutch (on sale for only $22, ASOS), and toned-down nude pumps (you know these are my absolute favorites — the per.fect hue — Rupert Sanderson, $568, MyTheresa):

Oh, and don’t forget plenty of bubbly, especially enjoyed in these retro-style coupes ($75 for 2, Kate Spade):

I also suh-wooned over this ModCloth dress ($149, ModCloth), which I adore for its simplicity and femininity (I also love that it’s called the “Time of My Life Dress” — rather a propos!):

I’d accent with some cluster studs ($505, Ylang23), a sparkling statement necklace ($123, Fornash), and some glam gold pumps ($15o, Endless):

Spritz on some Kate Spade TWIRL (it’s fruity, floral, and perfectly festive — $80, KateSpade), grab your clutch (on sale for $80, Lauren Merkin), and you’re ready to go!

Alternately, let’s drool over this Grecian goddess-inspired dress in stunning vanilla (the draping is killer — Haute Hippie, $475, Net-A-Porter):

Bling it out with some statement pumps (I’m telling you, Joan & David has entirely re-invented itself — check these puppies out!  They remind me of Marc Jacobs’ covetable be-sparkled clutch from last season — $220, Nordstrom):

Add some snowflake-inspired studs ($138, Elizabeth Cole Jewelry) and (– in our dreams –) finish with this un.believable box clutch by Givenchy (it’s so chic, it already looks vintage — $2,109, Kirna Zabete):

If you prefer your dresses with a bit more structure but like the idea of a winter-white cocktail dress, slip into this Antik Batik pleated dress (on sale for $245, My Wardrobe):

“Frost” yourself with this unbelievable sparkler ($185, Scoop NYC) and a glitterati clutch (Santi, $252, Joan Shepp)

(Love the mixed-metal effect.  Pure radiance.)  These sparkly pumps seal the deal (Beatrix Ong, $421, Farfetch):

I’m all about the shoes above because the happy little sparkles remind me of the fine bubbles in a sip of champagne (in wine-speak, these bubbles are known as the “mousse” of the champagne):

{Stemless champagne glass by Bodum — $24 for 12, Amazon}

For something a bit different, consider an elegant lace dress — check out this precious ivory-on-champagne confection ($195, Calypso-Celle).  (As indicated in my “Holy Macaron” post, I’ve been obsessing over a similar dress by 3.1 Phillip Lim, but the price point on the Calypso dress is far more appealing.)

These luxe Louboutins in ladylike blush leather would look per.fect — ($795, ShopSavannahs):

The ideal add-ons?  Some gorgeous ivory-and-blush studs ($70, Kendra Scott), a sparkling cuff ($195, Charm and Chain) and one of the “It” bags of 2010 (quick!  we’re running out of time!) — Lanvin’s “Oulouette” ($990, MyTheresa):

Even more affordable: check out this amazing flapper-style dress ($152, MyShape), accented with some sparkling studs ($50, Bing Bang):

I would pair this glitzy little frock with some dove gray pumps (Louboutin, $755, Net-A-Porter) — the suede-on-lace effect is eye-catching, and the metallic heel on these puppies ties the look all together:

A go-to oversized satin clutch is the perfect finishing touch (on sale for $49, J. Crew):

And, finally, a white satin dress is the perfect “blanc de blanc” canvas (The Row, $750, Net-A-Porter):

I might take this look in a different direction, pairing with bronzey-champagne accents rather than the silver/gold add-ons I’ve been pushing above, like this chic statement necklace (Fallon, $350, Ssense), a bronzed metal pair of shoes ($295, Reiss), and a rose-gold effect clutch ($195, Lauren Merkin):

But then again — with something as re-inventable as an LWD, I can just as easily imagine the dress above coupled with classic, glossy gold in the form of this to.die.for statement necklace, which I featured last week in the {magpie covets} section ($70, TheOutnet), an oversized cocktail ring ($55, Zappos), and some gold pumps (Louboutin, $600, Brown’s):

Finish with a convertible clutch-to-crossbody bag (Tory Burch, $265, ShopTwigs):

Who’s ready to celebrate?!

*The title of this post may or may not have been inspired by The Far East Movement’s “Like a G-6,” which may or may not continue to be on my workout playlist, despite the fact that it’s already be played out TTM.  Don’t judge…
