Don’t know if any of my lovely magpies share my soft spot for trashy reality TV, but the title of this post is an adaptation of the catch-phrase sung by the ever-classy gents of MTV’s Jersey Shore (“It’s t-shirt tiiiime!”) And scene. The real point of this post is to discuss the resurgence of the menswear trouser that has been all.over.the.place this season thanks to the return of the 70s luxe look (and, principally, the exquisite taste of Hannah MacGibbon of Chloe). I mean. Don’t these gorgeous shots from European fashion retailer Massimo Dutti speak to you?!
I instantly want camel trousers and charcoal gray accents. Done.and.done. Something like this cozy turtleneck in warm pewter ($39, J. Crew), a skinny leather belt ($19, Modcloth), and these fit-n-flare Calvin Klein trousers in rich camel ($98, TheOutnet):
Finish with some super high pumps (Dolce Vita, on sale for $114, Heels) and this gorgeous Prada bucket bag (I’m really loving the line of timeless, luxe-looking bags they’ve released this season — my favorite is this one, but the bucket bag below wouldn’t hurt, either — $1,395, Barney’s):
Love the idea of offsetting the slouching softness of the look with a stiff wool jacket in heather gray ($395, J. Crew) and these luxe fur-lined gloves by MaxMara ($175, Farfetch):
For something in a totally different color palette, I am dying over the idea of a pair of a feminine ivory blouse (the Balmain below is literal perfection, but I’m almost ashamed to tell you how much it costs…get the look for less here or here), tucked into some dramatic, high-waisted black trousers (Michael Kors, $695, Net-A-Porter) cinched with this darling Philip Lim belt ($175, La Garconne):
Pair it with a pop-of-red clutch ($250, Reiss) and the Louboutin “Elisa” (adore the very modest platform — $625, Barney’s):
Top it all off with my favorite statement cape of the season — Phillip Lim’s mohair and wool blend checked wonder ($1,100, Net-A-Porter) — um, d.i.e.:
The cape would also pair excellently with a nude-and-white patterned blouse ($175, Reiss ), a nude belt (didn’t realize how much I was into the equestrian accented belt until this post…$32, House of Frasier), some wide-legged gray trousers (Miu Miu, $466, MyTheresa — though you can get the look for less at Talbots), and some Stella McCartney inspired pointy-toed pumps (affordable alert! — $95, Instilo):
Finish with a patent nude bag (this puppy mirrors the shape of the Prada dream bag I mentioned earlier, but rings in at a fraction of the price — $51, ASOS):
