I mentioned this chic eyelet-and-cotton SEA sweater (shown below, $350) last week and haven’t been able to put it out of my mind since.  I so rarely buy a statement sweater — I’m always going for basic camels or navies in cable knits.  This one is such a beauty!
Since then, I’ve found some other pieces in a similar vein:

+This short sleeved J. Crew one ($69);
+This sleeveless SEA asymmetrical hem style (on sale for $159, plus extra 30% off!);
+This peplum eyelet top (not a sweater, OK, but in a similar vein — $75):

Any of these would look SO amazing with these stark white Ted Baker shades ($149 — or these super fly ones from hot line Gentle Monster).
Finally, neither a sweater nor a pair of shades, but how amazing is this eyelet dress, which, with the extra 40% off all Rebecca Taylor sale items, comes in at under $100?!

I like the merino tie-shoulder sweater you posted, but not on me … I don’t love cold-shoulder styles on me, for some reason. It’s weird because they DO offer a nice way to bare some skin without being too TOO, but for some reason they’re just not my favorites on me. I feel similarly about OTS styles, which have been so omnipresent over the past few seasons. I have one dress and one shirt, both from J.Crew, but I don’t reach for them like I do many of my other blouses and summer dresses!
Super chic, both of those SEA tops. I wish they were like $100 less each. (HA — I’m sure we all wish everything was $100 less, but they just seem really overpriced for casual wear, don’t you think?! Keeping my eyes peeled for a sale.) I hear you on the OTS. I love the look and find it very flattering, and — hence — have about 34 OTS/cold shoulder items in my closet, but I need to be going somewhere/doing something to motivate myself to wear them. Otherwise I’m always leaning towards something easy and cotton, like a tunic dress. No idea why. It just feels less fussy??
Fully agreed!! They do seem overpriced. Now that I think about it, I don’t actually own any Sea pieces, but I came close to getting a cute eyelet-embellished dress at Steven Alan a couple of years ago when it was marked down to $120 or so. The fact that I still remember it means I should have gone for it, don’t you think? Haha!
I think you hit the nail on the head re: slight fussiness of the OTS trend. Although I work in a creative field and can wear whatever I want to work, I also travel a lot for work and OTS pieces don’t really work when I’m hauling luggage. Maybe that’s why I don’t wear them as much … I should make a point to pull them out for days I’m in the office!
I love eyelet, but I have to be careful not to wear anything too cutesy. I am old enough that it can look like a little Baby Jane-ish on me.
HAHA! I hear you. I feel the same way about some of the beachier pieces I’m drawn to right now — I worry I will look like I’m trying too hard to be a teenager surfer chick. Well, at least we both have our heads screwed on straight / are self-aware enough to avoid trends that may do us a disservice! xo

It’s definitely not as nice as a cashmere blend, but it’s $24. While I don’t love knock-offs, they can help get some of these trends out of your system, or help you decide if you want to upgrade.
