Getaway

By: Jen Shoop

Preface: I know it’s NYE, and I am flat out not addressing it in the post below.  I began to conceptualize a post on glittery frocks but then thought — eh.  My chic peas will already have their outfits purchased/planned/in the bag/etc., so it’s a litttttle late to wax poetic over the newest duds on the rack.  Mr. Magpie and I have officially entered old person-dom and have decided to approach this NYE a little differently: we splurged on expensive champagne, caviar + blinis, lobster, and some oysters {and I’ll be making this deliciousness as a side, and went ahead and made a classic cheesecake yesterday for indulgent dessert}, and are staying in with old movies and party hats.  {That doesn’t mean I’m not getting dolled up.  I’ll be wearing this.}  Anyway — have a happy, safe New Year, whatever you’re doing!

*********************

The other night, Mr. Magpie casually asked me: “Where do you want to go on vacation this year?”  Eee!  I hadn’t even been thinking about a getaway, but now the seed has been planted.  (We shall see, though.  Between work trips, bachelorettes, bridal showers, and weddings, I have at least two trips a month from here until eternity, it feels like!  Staying home has become a welcome respite.)  Still.  I’m ready to pack mes valises (I’d love a set of Globetrotter suitcases — merci, merci!) and head somewhere tropical.

I’d head straight to la playa and bask in the warmth all day long…

I’d pack a bright towel ($170), sunscreen ($23), lip balm (die over this stuff — $25), slick lucite shades from Thierry Lasry (need.a.pair — $435 — or get the look for less with this $117 pair), and some hot pink flips ($50):

I love these accessories paired with a blousey tunic cover-up (LOVE the neckline detailing — on sale for $240):

In terms of swimwear, I kind of die over this retro-color-print two-piece (and so affordable! — $20-$24 per separate):

Finish with this amazing embroidered tunic ($190) and maybe this tasseled statement necklace ($219):

And, these awesome, futuristic-looking buckled sandals ($96):

Also kinda digging this scuba-inspired two-piece ($20 per separate — loving colorblocking!)

I’d wear it beneath this breezy caftan (on sale for $162) with a pair of cat-eyes ($185) and a Chanel pendant ($2,695):

And, for casual apres-beach wear, I have to admit I like the idea of some white denim jeans or cut-offs (eek?! — $154) with a striped tee ($35) and statement necklace ($540):

Round it all out with a pair of neon sandals ($165):

I can almost feel the sunshine…

  1. Haha — I feel your pain. Save more, spend less is a big resolution this year as I think we are going to start looking for a house later this year…but then, all of the holiday sales…!

  2. my hubs and i were just talking about a vacation. i am so ready to bask in the sunshine. i have been loving those elizabeth and james fairfax sunglasses for YEARS. i need to just buy them already. merry new year to me?? although that goes against my resolution of spending less money on things i don’t need. ugh. le sigh.
