While on a recent business trip, Mr. Magpie insisted that we “Face Time” each other. As the technology luddite I am, I had only a vague, unfounded, and technically oblivious idea of what this meant. One evening in my hotel room, I simply opened up my iPad and — BAM. There he was. A life-size version of his cute little face peering back at me. It totally caught me off guard, to the point that I almost freaked out. The picture quality, the audio — it was all crystal clear and in real time, and it occurred to me then that we really live in the future. (Think about it — do you remember the face in the magic mirror from the Disney cartoon Snow White? That was meant to be understood as supernatural sorcery — but here we are, living that reality.) Does current technology ever catch you off guard like that? Sometimes I think we’re living the Jetson lifestyle. Inspired by this experience, I’d like to channel this futurism fashion-wise in this post, taking my cues from this lovely look:
Ahh, SILVER. As one of you lovely Magpies pointed out in a comment on yesterday’s post, silver is like the forgotten stepsister of the metallic color family. Everyone’s been so heady with gold over the past few seasons, I feel that silver looks fresh, new, born again. So, first up — how chic would you feel with this serious statement necklace (Erickson Beamon, $980, Moda Operandi), a collarless white blouse ($230, MustHaves) and this silver circle skirt (on sale for $88, Dealuxe):
Pretty much TDF with a pair of simple black pumps (the Pigalles are iconic, though my boss owns these badboys and swears that they are the world’s cruelest joke on womankind…#pure-pain. Ew, did I just hastag? — $625, Net-A-Porter) and a mega-stud clutchski (Alaia, $1,473, Boutique1):
Speaking of studs — and these are NOT for the fashion faint-of-heart (slash — Mom, avert your eyes), these puppies ($78, Romwe) seem like something Olivia Palermo might rock in a serious and somehow polished way:
Kind of ah-may-zing with any of Alexis Bittar’s futuristic baubles (bangles, $325 apiece, Alexis Bittar):
Woah, woah, woah. Back to items within my fashion orbit: check out this glitterati skirt ($270, All Saints) with a simple, buttoned-down-to-there white blouse ($100, Net-A-Porter) and enorma-necklace (holy majoley, I NEED THIS — $148, BCBG):
Finish with these unbelievable Bottega Veneta wedges (wowza — $820, Net-A-Porter) and this YSL clutchski ($750, Cultstatus):
Or, do you not love the idea of these silver pantalons (Alexander McQueen, $910, Farfetch) with a collarless white blouse ($195, Very Eickhoff), a large, eye-catching necklace (Lulu Frost, $500, Charm & Chain), and a pair of boldly colored flats ($190, Net-A-Porter):
Perfection with this dreamy little clutchski (who else but Alexander Wang?! — $650, Kirna Zabete):
Or, how about this sashed sequin dress (DVF, $498, Intermix) with some deco-style drops ($120, Max and Chloe):
Consider how glam this look would be with these amazing PVC-accented Thierry Mugler shoes ($1,225, Opening Ceremony — or get the look for less with this $57 pair) and this cross-hatched clutch ($106, Endless):
This in turn reminds me of these eye-catching flats, which I want to pair with oh, just about everything ($49, Zara):
Or, do we not love this faux-wrap skirt ($490, Net-A-Porter) with a black blouse ($98, J. Crew) and a pair of statement drops ($160, Swarovski):
Perfection with these skinny heels ($90, TopShop) and this knotted leather clutch ($695, MyTheresa):
I might add this eye-catching cuff (KJL, $207, Max and Chloe):
And, though I’ve been prominently featuring silver, consider this peplum top in a soft gold hue (Mulberry, $600, Net-A-Porter) with white skinnies, lucite drops ($275, Alexis Bittar), and studded bow sandals (Valentino, $295, Net-A-Porter):
I’d round it all out with this absolutely precious woven bow-topped clutch ($180, Ted Baker):
Finally, a few star separates: a funky silver ball necklace ($48, Debenham’s), a lavender metallic satchel ($218, ASOS), and some lovely silver sandals (Zanotti, $595, Intermix):
Anyone else into this look!?
Nice! I will need to check it out, Summer! xxx
