Fall Finds for Mr. Magpies.

By: Jen Shoop

Landon buys virtually nothing for himself, and he recently asked me for some new fall clothes — a welcome invitation to hunt for some chic finds for his fall self. One thing I knew he needed was a new backpack; his old one (from Faherty) got so much surprising wear, the seams were ripping. The backpack has been SO handy for travel days, day trips with the kids, hikes, etc — ! I ended up picking up this “commuter backpack” from Away in olive. Lots of great compartments and I liked the minimalist style. (I also got him this flex roll-a-board in olive, as the Tumi he typically uses has started to look a little long in the tooth. I will say that suitcase lasted probably 100+ trips without giving us any trouble.) While we’re talking Away: they just launched a very chic aluminum edge style and released a heavily-requested blush color in their classic roll-aboard style. (I also love their cheery cherry red but thought Mr. Magpie was more of an olive guy.)

Some other great fall finds for our men below — but let me mainly spotlight his Rhone quarter zip and shorts set, seen above! Whenever he wears it, I call him “my retired professional athlete” — something about how he looks in that outfit just nails the vibe for me? And Landon — who is typically a wear-jeans-until-bed-and-then-wear-boxers-to-sleep guy (not big on athleisure) — has admitted he loves this set. We were recently on our way home from a social event and he said: “I’m looking forward to wearing the retired pro athlete set and pouring a big glass of wine.” (Reminder that my code SHOOP20 should get you 20% off sitewide at Rhone!)

PLAID SHIRT // OLIVE CORDUROYS // SEAVEES // WATCH // HERRINGBONE POLO // CABLE KNIT QUARTER ZIP // RHONE SHORTS // VINCE SNEAKERS

01. Rhone quarter zip and coordinating shorts.

02. Got Landon these suede SeaVees as a fall slip-on for his morning garden visits.

03. A classic plaid overshirt.

04. Straight jeans in several autumnal washes.

05. A “build-your-own” fall needlepoint belt. Would make a great gift for the Mr. Magpies in your life! So easy to customize. I had so much fun compiling Landon’s! I included his baseball uniform number (18!), an airedale, UVA sabers, and more.

06. A good pair of corduroys. I love all the colors!

07. This Quince cashmere polo at an excellent price for the quality. Got this for Landon, too!

08. I love Aurelien for classic menswear pieces. This cable knit quarter zip is so handsome.

09. Obsessed with this barn jacket.

10. This henley from RL.

11. Wool pullover with elbow patches from Barbour. In my cart for Landon!

12. Vince sneakers with a sueded olive detail. Great colors.

13. A henley / sweatshirt hybrid from Sezane. Perfect fall layer. Landon typically loves the fit / feel of pieces from Sezane if you’ve not yet tried!

14. A basic crewneck sweatshirt. Styled with any jean and a barn jacket — obsessed!

15. Alex Mill waxed utility jacket.

16. Love this “khaki green” long sleeve. Just so classic.

17. It’s fleece season — this jacket is so good.

18. Guest in Residence polo.

19. Every Mr. Magpie needs a good watch! Love this collab between Timex and Todd Snyder.

20. This RL cable knit in the brown heather! Gentlemanly!

21. Lightweight pique polo for early fall days.

22. Buck Mason standard jeans.

23. Rhoback’s performance quarter-zips in their fall herringbone styles for fall golfing.

24. We invested in this tweed jacket last season — it is SO handsome.

25. This plaid sport shirt — very good-looking.
