Yesterday morning, I woke up and thought: “I do NOT want it to be a workout day.” From beneath my mound of blankets, I couldn’t imagine having to move my body at an aggressive speed, or making my way through dozens of weighted lunges. Then I thought about the fact that I had my new fall Vuori set waiting for me, and how good it would feel to put that satisfying “x” in my habit tracker, and I made it happen. I also thought, in an abstract way, about all the women all over the world who were likely in my exact headspace, and imagined them getting the workout done, and it motivated me. (Do you ever watch those “my morning routines with time stamps” reels? I’m always so inspired by how disciplined and glamorous those women make their morning rituals look! It has actually helped me reframe my morning skincare and makeup processes. Why not imagine yourself in a glamorous light? Main character energy!)
Below, some chic but functional sets to inspire your fitness regimen this fall — what are yours at the moment? I am making my way through a 12 Week Heather Robertson series and layering in 30 minutes of cardio every other morning — either a run or a Peloton ride. One of my goals for this month is to try a new Pilates studio, too. I attended one terrifying reformer Pilates class a year or two ago and never went back (it was so hard and the instructors were barking at you NOT TO STOP) but I think this studio is a bit more my speed. Fall Athletic Sets.
First a note that I think these are the BEST gym shoes ever. They are lightweight but supportive — really great for doing any lateral movements because they stabilize your ankle so well.

I also want to spotlight one of my favorite gym tools: the cushioned Stakt mat. I was actually think I might gift this to my sister and/or father for Christmas this year. It’s such a great upgrade from a standard yoga/athletic mat — I find the cushioning very comfortable on my wrists and knees, and I also like that it can double as a yoga block. Would have been a lifesaver back in NYC!

Also, this little sherpa tote has been putting a little joy in my mornings during dropoff — an ideal accompaniment for fall athletic wear, whether wearing to the gym / yoga studio or just to the carpool line. Super roomy and comes with a removable logo strap and an adorable little sherpa pouch.

Jen- don’t give up on Pilates, it sounds like a bad teacher and studio match. I have finally found the best teacher- she has taught me so many skills for self regulation, including ones that I have taught my children, modifies everything for my body and abilities, and is hilarious. I work hard and laugh hard every session, exactly how I want to spend my workout time. Life is too short for a fitness instructor who makes you feel bad!
