Dressed for Success

By: Jen Shoop

I’ve invested in some new work-wear recently, as I’ve had to attend a lot of work events and conferences lately, and was uber bored of the looks I had on hand.  There is something so empowering about wearing an outfit you know you are rocking.  For example, here is a variation on an outfit I recently wore (swapped out for a slighter longer skirt…but you get my drift): I love.love. this black scalloped skirt ($160) and this embellished blouse (Altuzurra, on sale for $299 BUT — hold the phone — I own this VERRRY similar style from J. Crew and l.i.v.e. in it…and it cost $110.  Boo-ya.)  And some killa shades (Miu Miu, $290):

Finish with those Valentino Rockstuds (if you dare…yes, I’m still obsessed with them, and I know the moment may be disappearing before us — $975):

Finish with a Rochas tote ($1,645 — I’ve decided to upgrade to a Rochas now that my Neverfull is looking a little worse for the wear — I haven’t decided yet which style, but I am really digging the sleek, unflashy sophistication of one of these puppies).

I’d liven it up with some sky-high snakeskin wedges (love that you can get away with this pattern given the micro-pattern on the dress above — on super sale for $187):

I’ve also always loved the look of a blousy top (on sale for $154) tucked into smartly-tailored pantalons ($130), with a great statement necklace ($60) and some amazing python pumps (Loub, $1,245):

And add a simple, unfussy iPad case ($120…or upgrade, Valentino-style, to this puppy), a pair of smart glasses (love.these. from Warby Parker — $95), and a bold red wrap watch ($92):

Slick rick.  Alternately, for something a little less corporate, try a leather skirt ($390) with a denim button-down (Current/Elliott – $200 — though you can get a dead ringer at Mango for $60), some leopard wedge sandals ($295 – l.o.v.e.), and a crystal cluster necklace ($38):

I like it with a roomy red tote ($295):

Orrrr, for something a little lighter/girlier: this lace shift ($360), with these vintage-inspired drops ($42):

With some stunning pink-trimmed snakeskin pumps (on super sale for $182 — these MUST join the Magpie fleet):

Top it off with this Marc Jacobs tote ($395):

Just the right balance of sweet and professional.
