Cosmetic Obsessions.

By: Jen Shoop

A couple of new OMG-worthy items that have become a part of my cosmetic routine:

Pick1

I started coloring my hair last June as I approached my 30th and I haven’t looked back yet.  So much fun to change things up.  I recently invested in Oribe’s shampoo ($39) and conditioner ($42) for beautiful color and holy moly.  The scent is insane, the lather is luxurious, and even the packaging is gorgine.  Not to mention the fact that it truly highlights and enhances my blond streaks.  Love love love.  Never turning back.

Pick2

I mentioned this in a recent post, but last month, I picked up Hourglass’ Ambient lighting powder ($45) and blush brush ($35) on the recommendation of a blogger.  I love this stuff.  It doesn’t look powdery at all — just adds a gorgeous ethereal glow and finishes your look.  Into it.

Pick3

It’s taken me years to get comfortable with the hefty price tag on La Mer cream ($85+ depending on size), but I’ve been oh-so-curious as to whether this product lives up to its epic hype.  I have to admit: it does.  It leaves my skin looking dewy and bright, and one of the first days I wore it, my sister said: “Oh my gosh, what makeup are you wearing?!”  Um, none.  Just La Mer cream.  I think I’m sold.

Pick4

I love using bar soap instead of gel in the shower, and LAFCO recently came out with some epic scents (love marine brise, morning glory, and red poppy — $18 each) in gorgeous packaging (perfect hostess gift!).

Pick5

I have a long bob (aka, a lob) at the moment and have been desperately trying to mimic one of my all-time favorite hair looks: Sienna Miller at the Golden Globes.  My hair is naturally stick straight and has a serious vendetta against any attempts to curl it.  However, I picked up DryBar’s Sea Salt spray ($25) and it has mah-jor-ly helped me out.  I let my hair air dry, then curl small sections of my hair away from my face, making sure NOT to curl the ends (you want it to look sorta unfinished) before spritzing it with the spray and just mushing it and crushing it every which way.  I’m still finessing this look, but it’s getting close…my DryBar round brush helps.

Pick6

I have been into bold lip looks lately, and I was dying to check out the new set of lipsticks from Troi Olliviere for J. Crew ($28).  According to J. Crew: “The secret behind our models’ vibrantly painted pouts? Our longtime makeup artist Troi, who has been mixing different shades to create perfect colors and textures for years. Now, thanks to his new line of lipsticks, Troi’s colors are finally available outside our Style Guide.”  I lovelovelove the pink color — so fresh and fun for spring.  I’ve been pairing it with simple separates — one of my all-time favorites is wearing my chambray button-down with my favorite distressed jeans and my favorite Loeffler Randall flats (on sale for $149 here!) with delicate jewels (I have a few pieces from Jennifer Zeuner that I cherish) and the bold lip for a fun little pop o’ color.

Pick7

One of my favorite scents in the world is Fresh’s Hesperides (like a juicy grapefruit — $22).  But they also have this new gorgeous scent called “Life” ($22) that is almost too good to be true.  I had bought the candle in this scent previously, but was ecstatic to see the body lotion.  LOVE.

Pick8

The lacquer company CND has a line called Vinylux that purports to last for a week.  I’ve been using this line for months now — it definitely doesn’t stick around for a week, but it definitely lasts longer than Essie or OPI.  And I ruin manicures like it’s nobody’s business.  I cook too much for it to stay on!  This stuff is great for the weeks between a gel manicure when I’m trying to give my nails a break from the harsh gel mani.  I absolutely love the Cakepop color, the Rouge Red color, and the studio white color.
