In today’s 10 picks, I’m honing in on a lot of micro-trends I’ve noticed lately — ittybittyminimicro trends, that is. Things like mini bucket bags, and glen plaid, and mom jeans. Yes, mom jeans. I said it. (P.S. You can stay on top of my favorite street style trends via Pinterest. I’m an avid pinner — when I can’t sleep, I pin. When I’m waiting in line at the grocery, I pin. Follow along hereeee.)
Pick No. 1: The Micro Bucket Bag
These Simon Miller ring-handled micro bags ($390) have been such a street style cult classic for the last season or two, and I’m digging them. Other micro bags I love: the Mansur Gavriel mini sun bag and mini bucket bag. And, this circular one from Clare Vivier!
Pick No. 2: The Chanel-Esque Cardigan
Had to re-feature this adorable fringed cardigan I just snagged. I cannot wait for it to arrive — perfect accent piece for fall.
Pick No. 3: The Statement Earring
How fresh are these bold earrings ($69) from Mochi?! I was actually dying over the entire Mochi line — so many stunning colorful pieces, including this striped shirtdress.
Pick No. 4: The Bell-Sleeved Blouse
How incredible is this pink-and-red bell-sleeved blouse ($195)? (You can get the look for less with this $40 steal.) I’m seeing a lot of mock-necks this season, and I dig it: I also love this blouse.
Pick No. 5: The Boxy Striped Tee
Another mockneck! What did I tell ya! And this one very affordable and in a fabulous shade of petal pink. If you look up close, you can see how thick the cotton is — such good quality for such a good price!
Pick No. 6: The Mom Jean
OK, what do we think about non-skinny-or-slim-cut-jeans? AKA The Mom Jean that’s been all the rage on fashionistas? I’m scared, but also, a little intrigued. I think it could be a little hard for those of us with hips to pull off.
(Mr. Magpie shudders.) I’ve been intrigued enough to track down a few options to inspect more closely: a pair of classic Levi’s, these by Frame, or these more-on-the-safe-side Everlanes. (P.S. I love that Everlane lets you see the same pair of jeans on multiple different body types and in different sizes! GENIUS! Talk about transparency!)
Pick No. 7: The Strapless Satin Top
Talk about elegant + glamorous party dressing — this satin top ($118) is so Jackie O., especially in that fetching shade of gold! I imagine pairing this with either dark wash denim for an evening out or a narrow column skirt for a more formal affair. Reminds me of these stunning Sachin + Babi tops, also a fetching find for this upcoming season’s holiday parties!
Pick No. 7: The Glen Plaid Statement
I’ve seen a lot of gray glen plaid pieces lately — this chic pea being a prime example:
I also spotted a similar pattern in the Instastories of the oh-so-chic Jenny Walton:
Get the look with either this affordable Mango dress ($70) or this J. Crew blazer ($258) or this Self Portrait romper ($305).
Pick No. 8: The Tibi Fall Dress
This Tibi dress ($395) is a perfect investment piece for the fall-to-winter season: I imagine wearing it with tights and booties or sharp statement flats and feeling appropriate no matter what I’m up to (meetings? playgroup? museum? post-work drinks? check, check, check, check). ALSO: note the mockneck. (Third time in this post alone! They’re a thing!)
Pick No. 9: The Cape
I’d very much like to splurge on this stunning Veronica Beard blanket cape ($650) — how perfect with jeans?! (As an aside, I lived in capes during my pregnancy last year. I’d throw them on over stretchy maternity tees, slip on my loafer mules, and be done with it.) However, much more likely: this checked J. Crew capelet for $75.
Pick No. 10: The Plaid Bow-Front Blouse
Andddd, combining all.the.trends: a) bows, b) fall colors, c) statement blouses, and d) glen plaid, I give you this $80 Madewell find. Also note that she’s kind of wearing a mom jean situation in this pic!
P.S. OK, one more affordable fall find you have to know about!
Oooh, I love this post. I have a mini Mansur Gavriel bucket bag (not the mini mini, though) and I like the size so much better than my full-sized one. I have been eyeing the Simon Miller Bonsai bag for a while now and really love it — I tend to spend less on bags that are trendier/smaller/less of an everyday thing, though.
OK, Mom jeans. I am fully for this trend, and I definitely have some hips (or, more accurately, a butt. Ha!) I think, if done right, it can be a really flattering look. I have a pair of Levi’s Wedgie jeans that are made from selvedge denim and I LOVE THEM — I got them in June and haven’t worn them too much yet, since they’re made from a thicker denim and I never wear jeans when it’s above 75 degrees, but I think they’ll be a core fall piece for me. I also have a pair of Frame Le Originals and I love them, too — they’re really similar to the pair you posted, just with a clean-cut hem. AND I have a pair of Acne Boy jeans in slightly-faded black and feel that they are the perfect gateway to the Mom silhouette, because the black makes them a bit more slimming.
I LOVE a good cape and that Veronica Beard number is too perfect! I think the only one I have at the moment is by Black Crane, and I love it because it’s reversible. 🙂
YAAAS to my fierce fashionista MK for rocking them mom jeans! Good for you. I am definitely game to try most trends; it just takes me awhile to warm up to them. So funny how polarizing these jeans are in particular.
My husband HATES the mom jean! He gives me that look every time I try to pull it off:)
LOL. I think my husband will, too. EEE
ALSO, a friend of mine just texted me and said: “Can you make the mom jean trend go away please?” HAHA
