The Hunt for the Great Sweatshirt.

I’m not huge into athleisure as a general category — errrr, I should say, I like to think of myself as someone not into athleisure as a general category, but can completely understand its appeal now that I spend most of my days running after a soon-to-be-toddler and a will-never-not-be-a-puppy.

That said, I have been on the hunt for a perfect weekend sweatshirt.  Something that says: “I’m cool and hip” and can distract from the macaroni gummed onto my jeans, or the messy bun I seem to be sporting more often than I care to, or the vague look of exhaustion I occasionally see in the mirror come 6 p.m.  Sorta like the clothing equivalent to my Golden Goose sneakers, which still — after these many months of use — make me feel just a little bit happier with myself every day.  I am torn between something with some sort of logo on it, which would make it a better fit for jeans and aforesaid GGs and maybe a baseball hat with a well-curved brim (I will never ever get on board with a stiff brim…jusssst no), or something plain jane that could be dolled up as shown on the street style starlets above and below.

On the plain jane side of the spectrum:

+Everlane’s currently-sold-out-but-expected-to-be-restocked-in-May sweatshirt, in either coral or bone ($38).  I like the simplicity of this style — it’s slightly boxy, but a semi-cropped length, lending it a “right now” kind of look.

+J. Crew’s garment-dyed crewneck sweatshirt ($68).  I love this French blue color.  Would look mega paired with this season’s ice blue — imagine these with a pair of ice blue pants, or an ice blue skirt?!  Or, just a pair of light-wash jeans and some white loafers?  SO GOOD.

And if pastels aren’t your thing, check out this $58 style from the always-trendy Reformation, on offer in “pine” or black.

In the plain-jane-with-a-twist…or not-so-plain-jane category:

+Tibi’s sculpted sleeve sweatshirt ($250).  I love the sleeve detailing, and lavender is my jam.  You can get the look for less with this $78 Free People style, also in lavender, and also with a maj sleeve.

+The Great’s bishop-sleeve sweatshirt in millennial pink ($185).

I’m also a little awestruck by this Ulla Johnson pullover ($195) — love how she’s styled it below.  Talk about an elevated basic!

I might also consider this tie-back sweatshirt with shirting stripe in the back (on sale!), this nubby-textured style in the ivory, and this fun ruffle-shouldered style.

In the more head-on athletic lane…

+This millennial pink LOVE sweatshirt — love those ivy league letters! ($140)

+This boxy white embroidered style from Yeah Right NYC ($150), which maaaaajorly nails Le Look right now — that uber-boxy, oversized, snarky vibe that’s everywhere.

+This down-to-earth Rag + Bone in fantastically feminine colors ($295) — especially love those thick white laces!

+If you want to be SUPER IT, this “college” sweatshirt from The Great, which sold out at a few vendors already this season!  Also like this heart one.  BONUS: your mini can match you.

And if you wanna be super #basic (in a good way; #basic is in): this Nike (under $60).

P.S.  More micro-trends I’m into.

P.P.S.  The bag from a decade ago that I’m very into right now.
