The Big Flop.

First, lemme admit a personal flop.  Many of you subscribe to receive email alerts every time a new Magpie post goes live (and if you don’t yet, you can do that here).  Last weekend, in my efforts to continue to improve the look + feel of this blog (I’ve heard from many of you that you approve of the new design — thankyouuuuu), I migrated my mailing list from one service provider to another.  And in the process, some things went haywire, and most of my subscribers did not receive email alerts on new posts all week long.  Womp womp.  I’m so sorry about this!  And, if for any reason, you are receiving alerts and do not want to, just let me know (jennifer@thefashionmagpie.com) and I will unsubscribe you!  (P.S. For the record, I do not like MailChimp.  If any of you pretty ladies need to consider an email service, feel free to email me for my thoughts on this.)

OK.

Onto happy things:

My absolute favorite detail from Fashion Week–which just wrapped up last week–hailed from Tory Burch: the big, floppy velvet bow on the statement mules in the look below makes me DIE.  I love love love.  I also love the big earrings, the bow in her hair, the sumptuous florals, and the oversized monogram…but that floppy bow!

…and a close up:

AND, literally just TWO days ago, Moda Operandi made a select set available for pre-order ($600) and I’M DYING.  I need these.  Even that epic sculptural heel!  EEEP!  It’s heart-breaking that they won’t ship until fall :/  I am *thisclose* to ordering…

I’m realizing, though, that I’ve been drawn to bow-topped footwear (preferably mules) for some time now, as might be evident from pick no.2 in this roundup, or the denim mules I showcased when I talked about the frayed denim microtrend.  Below, my favorite picks for getting that big floppy bow look, many of which I’ve featured in other posts already:

+These Prada slides ($650) will haunt me forever.  I’m beginning to think about my next statement shoe investment (my last was the Gucci Princetown mule) and these are in the running.

+OMG, these striped No. 21 mules ($569).  SO amazing.  So, so, so amazing.

+These leather bow-topped slides ($99) would go with everything in my summer wardrobe.

+These bow-topped pointed toe flats ($118) are TRES chic, and office-appropriate to boot.

+Not a bow, but the floral situation on these Sophia Webster slides ($295) is right up my alley and squarely in the zone with this microtrend.

+Love love love these $100 denim frayed slides.

+Also available in a cool textiled version (also $100).

Of course, those Sam Edelmans are deeply reminiscent of my latest obsession, the Brother Vellies Burkina ($285).

P.S. — You can get the look for $34 with these ASOS beauts!

+I also love these Valentinos ($495)…

+…and these Kate Spades nail the look, too ($98).

But these from new-to-me line Trademark ($680) are seriously fashion-forward.  (And the gingham!!!)  And, remember when I flipped my lid over the Parisian footwear line Chatelles?  They also have a great pair of big floppy bow flats in exquisite velvet here.

And, nearly sold out in all sizes (wahhhh), but these Jeffrey Campbell heels have stolen my heart ($180) with that statement bow:

If you really want to kick things up a notch, join the fleet of well-heeled street style stars in wearing the heeled version of the No. 21 mules above ($570 for bronze pair; $615 for striped pair).

And, to bring things full circle and come back to those stunning bows the models wore in their hair on the TB runway…

Get the look yourself with an oversized bow headband in navy or black ($24) or one of these velvet bows ($14).  Or this oversized satin style ($25).
