I draw a lot of fashion inspiration from street style photography, but will often tone things down or reinterpret or avoid layering too many trends on top of one another to keep myself from looking a little too too. I thought I’d share some of these re-interpretations today. I should preface this post by saying that a lot of these styles are pretty avant garde. Don’t be intimidated! I promise that if you keep the rest of your look simple (dark wash denim, a white button down, simple flats), you’ll be turning heads left and right.
(And P.S., per usual, I’ll be posting twice today–the post later today will focus on #minimagpie! So tune back in if that’s your jam.)
I’ve written about the return of the statement sleeve, but this vision in red caught me off guard:
I like the fashion-forward boldness of that red flamenco top paired with those 90s throwback jeans. And I’m even digging her unkempt locks. I’m planning on getting the look for less with this $79 red top. (UPDATE: The top originally linked keeps selling out! Get the look with either this Alice + Olivia lovely or this bargain pick!)
Also — this frilled Zimmermann jumpsuit nails the look.
I’ve been noticing a lot of embellished slide sandals on offer lately. The gold standard seems to be these Miu Mius ($750).
(Do these vaguely (jarringly?) bring to mind the Adidas pool slides we all wore in middle and high school? Everything old is new again…) Get the look for less with these Mystiques ($190). Or, these pretty pink beauties ($192).
Now here’s a look not for the faint of heart, but these little Loewe elephant bags ($1,290) have been causing quite the stir on the street style scene. You can get the look a little more subtly by investing in the coin purse version ($380). I like the cheekiness of this unexpected accent, but you gotta temper it with sophisticated separates so you don’t look like you accidentally grabbed your daughter’s lunchbox on the way out the door.
OR — go the budget buy route with this adorable little Patricia Chang mouse bag (on sale for $136):
Gucci came out with a series of embellished floral bomber jackets ($2,900) that fashion editors and street style darlings lost their minds over.
I became an interested on-looker when I saw Rosie Huntington Whitley in a floral bomber and looking super fly, and then began to see street style stars wearing similar looks, i.e.:
I’ve been eyeballing this Alice + Olivia bomber ($485), this Joie (on sale for $256), or this more affordable buy from Blank Denim ($148).
I have also saved about a dozen street style snaps of ladies in amazing dramatic pink tops…not that this is a trend per se, but just a look I was drawn to:
I finally scouted out and ordered the perfect dramatic pink top of my own for an affordable $46!!!:
Dying over those balloon sleeves. I’ll be wearing this with white skinnies and my Hermes slides (I own them in the pretty, go-with-anything brown color, but also love these white ones) all summer long, thankyoukbyeeee. And P.S. — I also considered this style, in a similar vein.
A few other finds that are pushing me out of my comfort zone without hurting the old wallet too much:
+Shearling moto jacket (under $100!), heavily inspired by this street style snap.
+Balloon-sleeve sweater ($168), first spotted and admired on the beautiful Naomi of LoveTaza here.
+I’m really digging the boxy cut top RN (how cool does she look?!), and this gingham ($38) or this crisp white Anthro find ($98) are at the top of the list.
+Gucci has majorly popularized the loafer in the past few seasons–including the embellished, floral-print loafer (see in action on the streets here, buy here or here). But we can get the look for less with these beauties ($120), which are currently on my shopping lust list.
+I love the volume on this Caroline Constas top ($395), but can achieve the same look for $85 with this steal.
