+POP CULTURE QUESTIONS: On the heels of my completely out-of-the-blue commentary on a 2022 movie featuring Alexander Skarsgard this week, and your warm and willing receptivity to it: subjects I’d like your thoughts on: the phenomenon of Pedro Pascal, examined from a starting point of this clip; the expense and spectacle of Sabrina Carpenter’s “Manchild” music video (!); Megan Moroney in general (why do I enjoy her music so much? have you seen her TinyDesk? have you also sniffed at the rumors about her and Riley Green?). I think it’s the edges of her voice and the down-to-earthness of her lyrics; something about the latter reminds me in the strangest way of Sally Rooney’s treatment of texting in her novels — which never feels false or engineered or neologistic. It is authentic, believable. I feel the same with Moroney, especially the sentiment and expression in her song “I’m Not Pretty,” which presumes Instagram’s use cases without making it cute or trope-y? I can’t put my finger on it, but I find it very refreshing and earnest. What other pop culture moments are you turning over or intrigued by?
+IMMENSITY TAPS AT YOUR LIFE: This poem — wow!
+THE BEGINNING OF A YOGA CLASS: This made me LOL.
+HAIM ALBUM: Currently listening to a lot of Haim’s latest album, “I Quit.” A delight! 90s vibes! The opening song samples “Freedom” by George Michael, and it really sets the mood.
+EYEING + BUYING: I think most of us got access to the Nordstrom sale yesterday or today? A lot of you are buying these fantastic aprons — one of my husband’s favorite and most-used possessions. (These are chef-grade aprons, used in high-end restaurant kitchens!). I am buying Bombas socks, this bakeware set, and now I’ve convinced myself to buy this Dr. Diamond Metacine Plasma Duo. I was really impressed with the plasma when I used it last year but it’s an expensive habit! I use it in lieu of my serum for really bright, youthful-looking skin. All my picks here!
LOEWE SUNGLASSES (ON SALE) // OLD NAVY TANK // BR STRIPED TANK // WOVEN LOAFERS // POSSE WHITE SKIRT // ST. JANE PHYTO-MUCIN CREAM // RUE DE VERNEUIL X LA LIGNE TOTE // BOWL COVERS // DESIGNER-INSPIRED HAIR CLAW
Some quick notes: I traveled this week with this Rue de Verneuil tote and am OBSESSED. The shape is so chic (Hermes-esque) and I was able to place my rattan tote inside (totes in totes) for an easier carry through the airport. It carries a lot! Strong rec for a chic and sturdy travel day bag.
And! I am becoming a fanatic about St. Jane. I use their Hydrasilk for body (love love love) and now this “bouncy” phyto-mucin face cream and cannot rave about it more. Love the consistency and more importantly the results.
