So there’s a chance I might go dark for a few days this week — we won’t have Internet set up until tomorrow and I’m not sure what life will be like amidst boxes, a baby, and a dog while Mr. Magpie is at work all day and we are without a nanny (any referrals from my NY ladies are welcome!). But I am all about living in straight-forward clothing and practical footwear in the meantime (see my typical uniform here), and these adorable gingham-bow flats (shown above — $118) would be a welcome newcomer to the ol’ shoe rotation. (Also, I wish I was putting my feet up right now.)
All things considered, this past week at home in D.C. with my parents was a blessing. I missed Mr. Magpie horribly (maybe the longest we’ve spent apart since we were married over seven years ago?) and it felt weird and wrong to spend so much time with our family strewn about the East Coast, BUT. Silver linings abound. I was in town for the birth of my nephew (heart exploding) and was able to help my parents care after my other nephew while my sister was in the hospital. I met my nephew within 24 hours of his birth! Another sister flew into town on Saturday morning, so I was able to spend a bit of time with her, as well, which was a gift, and then there’s the fact that minimagpie enjoyed such lovely quality time with both sets of grandparents AND our dog got more exercise and attention in the care of my parents-in-law than she has in, well, probably her whole life. I ate well, I drank well, and all’s well that ends well.
I also spent very little of this week sleeping — with all the hotel living and changes in routine, minimagpie is back to waking up twice a night (at least), and caring after my sister’s toddler had me on alert for 5:30 am reveille for two consecutive days. Not that I’m complaining: I’ll take intermittent sleep knowing that we have our living situation ironed out while my mother fawns over me 10 out of 10 times versus living in hotels, unsure when we’ll have access to an apartment. Also, while awake in the wee small hours of the morning, I had plenty of time to do some shopping damage…
+I’ve been on a Bobbi Brown kick lately — I find their products well-priced and well-made, and I love the colors. (In case you didn’t know, I’ve worn this blush in the Pale Pink color for about a decade.) This cream highlighter is high on my cosmetic lust list.
+This moody floral bow-front dress is gorgiiiine. I’ve still not pulled the trigger on a Thanksgiving dress (…?)
+Love the bow details on this.
+This merlot-colored sweater is supah chic. Just in case you haven’t had your sweater fix yet.
+These chairs for a kid’s table / nursery situation are too cute — such great colors, too! Love the lime green and violet in particular.
+Dying over this blouson-sleeve cardi in the neutral color. I feel like I’d wear this ALL.THE.TIME.
+Heart mittens! (Great gift, BTW! More gift ideas…)
+A friend recently told me that Old Navy’s onesies stand up well to the wash and are a great, soft thickness. I’m going to give a set a try because I absolutely love 1212’s onesies but they are $$$ and I feel like mini outgrows them in a minute flat.
+While on the topic of Old Navy: for my preggos — THESE!!!
+And for my non-preggos, THESE!!! In the cactus print or polar bear print especially.
