Actually, Master of Everything: Francesca’s Style in Master of None.

Based on comments on various blog posts, I think it’s safe to say a lot of my little Magpies were just as smitten with the latest season of Master of None as I was.  And, in particular, by Francesca, the love interest, and, more particularly, her absolutely gorgeous wardrobe.  I was charmed by an interview with the show’s costumer designer, Dana Covarrubias, where she explained:

“We based her looks off of Monica Vitti, who’s the actress in “L’Avventura” and “La Notte.” She is a stunningly gorgeous actress, and when we watched those films, nothing that she is wearing is so spectacular — it’s like a simple button or a simple black pencil pant or really simple, chic black dress — but she just has such appeal that it makes it look amazing. I think Alessandra [Mastronardi, who plays Francesca] has that, and so we really wanted to keep it simple. It’s really about shape too; we tried to mimic a lot of those ’60s shapes on there, a lot of boatneck and three-quarter-length sleeves and pencil pants, chic dresses, stuff like that.”

A few of my favorite Francesca looks:

Yes.  Yes.  Yes.  Yes.

I tracked down a few pieces that I love that channel her cool Italian gal from the 60s vibe:

+Gorgeous, well-priced, belted wool trenchcoat in fetching camel.  It’s running neck and neck with this belted wool style in the race for my pick for a winter coat this year.

+Adorable gauze-y polka dot dress for under $100.

+Stunning polka dot dress from Alexis, on sale for less than $200!  (Or this H+M steal.)

+These Sandro belted pants (on sale!) look an awful lot like her adorable belted mauve trousers in the museum scene.

+Love this belted midi-length skirt — looks exactly like something she would wear.

+A punchy chunky turtleneck.

+A beautiful red wool coat.

+The shape and oversized buttons on this dress look very 1960s chic to me.

+Cashmere ribbed hat (on sale for under $30)!

+This retro bow-necked dress from J. Crew’s latest arrivals has my full attention!
