Welcome to the New Nest!

Yay!  A new address is always cause for celebration!  September is (in the fashion world) a month of reinvention, new beginnings, and fresh trends, so it’s just perfect that I managed to make my way to the new domain name this crisp near-fall day in mid-September.  While I had intended to finish a post on the fur trend or to perhaps reveal some of my favorite beauty products of the moment in today’s premiere “issue,” I was too caught up in “new zip code” excitement and just had to feature something a bit…glitzier.  Something festive.  A few weeks ago, I featured a  post on sequins for daytime.  Today we’ll eschew the careful balancing act I’d advocated there and go “full glitz”: all I want to see right now is glitter, sequins, and sparkle.  Luckily for us, retailers are delivering in a big time — high shine is where it’s at.

To begin with: can I please own these Kate Spade puppies ($325, Saks)?  I mean.  A pink heel?  A glittered slingback?  A bow-toed peeptoe?  Yes, please.  I like the idea of wearing them with dark-wash skinny jeans and a floaty little top for a night out.  Or how about this glittery little clutch by the one and only Anya Hindmarch ($395, Net-A-Porter)?

Now, I must admit that the phrase “full glitz” has been not-so-furtively filched from the show “Toddlers and Tiaras,”  TLC’s disturbing documentary-style reality show covering beauty pageants for children, largely in the south and midwest.  (Maybe they only exist there?)  Don’t judge, but I’ve been staying up a tad-too-late watching on demand episodes (thank you, Mr. Magpie, for setting me up with DVR and On-Demand.  Love it.)  The show is terrifying and riveting at the same time — you’ll see toddlers throwing tantrums because they don’t want to be spray-tanned and hair-teased and made-up, parents spending well beyond their means to sustain their daughters’ presence on the pageant circuit (“full glitz” dresses can cost around $2K a pop, and they are hideous little be-glittered, be-spandexed, floofy, figure-skater-gone-wrong deals), and — perhaps worst of all — ties between contestants broken on the basis of “facial beauty.”  (Stomach churn — it’s like watching girls develop self-esteem issues in slow motion.)  While the pageantry is upsetting, I l-o-o-o-v-e the phrase “full glitz” and have appropriated it for my own needs, because everyone needs “full glitz” some days — you know, when the minimalista trend just ain’t cutting it for you, and you need a little pep in that step…you know, something like this to.die.for dress (obsess over the details with me — do you not live for the little star print pattern?! — $370, La Garconne), paired with these to-good-to-be-true Louboutins ($1,895, Barney’s):

In a getup like that, you should probably walk around accompanied by Kanye West’s “Flashing Lights” song, which pretty much makes me feel like a flashy celebrity anytime I put it on.  Also goes well with all things bling-y — maybe this gorgeous druzy ring by Marcia Moran ($198, Rain Collections) or this Alexis Bittar bangle ($250, Nordstrom)?

Check out 1stdibs.com for vintage jewelry finds up for grabs — I drool over these unbelievable Christian Dior enormastuds, and am devastated that they’ve already been snapped up:

Heirloom-worthy for sure.  I may just have to console myself with this fun little bracelet, to be worn with silky little tops and sky high heels on the weekend ($48, Nordstrom):

Or how about one of these fab little animal rings by my favorite costume jewelry designer, nOir (rings range in price, but everything is on sale right now — snap.them.up! — $68-$120, Noir Jewelry)?  I own the little koi fish ring and like to add it on when I’m wearing a combo of navy and black for a night out.

And how over the top would you look pairing a simple silky white blouse (THE item of the season, especially the original “slim fit signature” by Equipment — wear with everything — $174, Pink Mascara) with a “full glitz” skirt like this little Vince number ($295, Saks)?

I’m also in love with the glitzy drama of these little ribbon tie necklaces ($158 apiece, Nordstrom):

So fun and effervescent — as are these little “glitterati” flats, which add just the right amount of pizzazz for everyday situations that need, well, a little pizzazz ($59, ModCloth):

And how about these blinged out graphite-colored Weitzmans ($355, Zappos), or for a little SPLASH, this mini coin purse($20, Zappos)?

Get your glam on!  And welcome home!
