OK, so in all honesty, I’m so into the look + palette I introduced yesterday that I could have tripled the length and STILL had things to feature. Very unexpected, but I feel like I suddenly turned a leaf and everything bright and neon made me irritable and somehow looked childish. (Does anyone else suffer from this fashion bipolarity now and again?) Now I only want blouses, trim jeans, sophisticated neutrals, and little fluted/flippy skirts. So much so that what started as a “let me just tidy up my closet” ended up, four hours later, with a complete closet reorganization, four huge bags worth of donations, and several consignments. I feel amazing. I feel like I just dropped a lot of sartorial dead-weight — now I look in my closet and see all the things I love and none of those vestiges from previous seasons that I used to routinely ignore.
So, now that I’ve cleared out my closet…as Mr. Magpie astutely observed: “That means you have more room for new stuff.” (He said this with a look of pain and dread.) Where to begin…? Well, aside from needing to own everything I mentioned yesterday, here are some other options I’ve been watching: fab little boxy jacket (these are all.over.the.place this season. Get on it. — DVF, on sale for $180 — or, check out this sweater jacket-y thing that I’ve been eyeing. So good. With skinny jeans and serious boots?! Get out.); ruffly printed blouse (on sale for $35); leather skirt ($330)
Now. Let’s talk more about my budding leather obsession. It started last year and it’s spilled into this one. And as a result, I must own this Sass + Bide mixed fabric stunner ($650):
Do you not live for this?! I’d wear it over a bow-front blouse (I loveeee this pattern — and it’s Oscar! — on sale for $574), black skinnies, and these fab scallop-edged booties ($1,195):
I know I’ve featured this wonder before, but I gotta say that this Jerome Dreyfuss would again be the perfect finish ($1,225):
Orrr, this nubby boucle top (to die. — Marissa Webb, $550) with a flounced skirt ($60) and round sunnies (Illesteva, $165):
Finish with black sandals ($100) and this drool-worthy Reed Krakoff ($2K):
If you’re a little skittish about a full leather jacket, this leather-trimmed/shouldered topper might be the ideal fix ($119). Pair with a white blouse ($49) and a great patterned skirt (ALC, $498)
I like it with this bow-toed flat ($198) and a simple crossbody (love that gleaming gold bar — $258):
Finally, this gray capelet ($179) with black leather J. Brands ($1,100) and those Marant booties that I die over (oh.my.goodness. — $1,505):
And, add this affordable (beautifully shaped) tote (Zara, $60):
