Smorgasbord.

When I was growing up and my mom wanted to clean out the fridge, she would put all of the leftovers, tupperwares, half-filled bins, etc., on the kitchen counter and would try to make it sound fancy and appealing by saying: “We’re having smorgasbord for dinner.”  UGHHH.  It still haunts my dreams.  No one wants a little wedge of leftover steak, a scoop of soupy mac and cheese, some limp salad, and a stale heel of bread.  (HA, I am making it sound way more depressing than it was, but that’s what it felt like.)  To this day, Mr. Magpie will taunt me by claiming that we are having smorgasbord for dinner.

So, there’s a weird irony to using the title smorgasbord for a post that’s full of delightful goodies.  I guess I’m trying to reclaim the word, strip it of it’s nasty connotation, and also come up with a new and creative way to refer to the random hodge podge of goodies currently on my radar.

So, here’s my Mapgie Smorgasbord:

Mr. Mags gave me a sick pair of orange Tod’s drivers (this pair, to be exact) for Christmas (maybe this is where my recent orange obsession has stemmed from?!), and I also think this pair is pretty slick ($665).

I lovelovelove the spotted print on this foldover clutch (Clare Vivier, $210):

How FAB are these pillows ($95 each)?!  The PRINT.  So depressed that this pattern / these colors don’t really go in any of the rooms in my house.  How do I create a space for them?!

I recently purchased a little lucite side table for my bedroom but then decided that it was just too modern for our current aesthetic, so I returned it.  I kind of miss it already and wondered if I threw in the towel too early.  Who says that you can’t mix styles and aesthetics?!  Shoot.  What would you do?  I’d feel ridiculous re-ordering…blah.  I also considered this awesome lucite rollable shelf unit ($349).  The price is a little steep but it would be a great office piece — keeping things light and airy.

This little leather catch-all with a sweet message on the interior would be a lovely accent atop a lucite table…

This bag is ridiculous (Givenchy, $1,890):

End of story.  BANANAS.

How presh is this gingham bikini ($130 for top, $130 for bottom) —

Pair with these bow-toed flip flops (Valentino, $295):

This dress (Suno, $362) — I NEED IT!!!!!

I’ve been all about the espadrilles since I bought a pair by Chanel last year.  These, with the leather-tipped toes ($75), caught my eye, too.

Into this lace-paneled sweatshirt (on sale for $55)…cool with a tangle of pearl necklaces ($80):
