It was a cold, rainy Halloween for the second year in a row here in Chicago. (Well, last year it was snow-sleet-rain, so technically this year was a little better.) Poor little kiddos! Mr. Magpie and I huddled up inside with cocktails and treats and some friends and doled out candy to the handful of brave kids that made it out. It made me think about how awful everyone looks/feels in the rain. Except for, you know, these types:
But in all seriousness, there are a few ways to get around a rainy day in style. A few of my top picks below:
+Rag + Bone moto rain boots ($225);
+Burberry fringe check rain boot ($325);
+Leopard rain boot ($60);
+Loeffler Randall Fenton boot ($195);
+Sperry waterproof rain boot ($119):
In terms of outerwear…
+There’s something ultra-classic about a sunny yellow raincoat (Petit Bateau, $205);
+I lived in my Marmot PreCip winbreaker ($100) while in Aspen over the summer. Actually, my brother-in-law had purchased one prior to the trip after having read rave reviews about it (water resistant, wind resistant, lightweight, breathable), and literally every single person in my family snapped one up by the trip’s end. We were a walking Marmot ad. Mine was the platinum color shown below, Mr. Magpie had one in cherry red.
+I also love the colors that the Patagonia torrentshell windbreaker ($129) come in. This burgundy is pretty chic.
Now, I have to brag about the most amazing umbrella ever — the Davek NY traveler ($89). Mr. Magpie read about it on the Wirecutter blog and it’s been the best thing ever. It’s tiny and lightweight so I can throw it into my bag without it being a big deal / adding too much extra weight — and it is super sturdy and well-made. Strongly recommend.
