How was your weekend? We had a super cozy, lazy weekend that involved Stan’s Donuts, dog park runs, the new HBO series Westworld (so good), sweaters, gumbo, and football. I also spent quite a bit of time putzing around on the Internet when I couldn’t sleep. Thought I’d share some of my latest finds:
Guys, I can’t even with Gucci right now. Talk about the comeback of a lifetime — I had considered Gucci a bit stale until the last few seasons and now I want everything they do. I typically invest in one statement shoe per season, and already snagged their Princetown backless loafers ($595) as this season’s pick. But these Marmont loafers ($750) are EVERYWHERE and are so intriguing. I’m still seriously dangling on the fence about these low-granny-heeled styles but the higher heeled ones (shown first below, $790) have my name all over them. The latter two snaps are of street style blogger Arielle Charnas who has a great knack for nailing the season’s trendiest footwear. And I’d say she rocks the granny heel.
Exaggerated, bell-sleeve sweaters and blouses have been all.over.the.place lately.
The last snap in particular has me swooning — THE Chanel slingback of the season (sold out everywhere, but you can occasionally find a pair on RealReal, eBay, or a similar site — but get the look for less with these $125 lookalikes) and that Celine shirt and that epic Charlotte Olympia clutch. TOO GOOD. At any rate, this $83 sweater is the perfect, reasonably priced way to get in on the trend.
I was prowling through Zara’s latest arrivals and, though I saw a few great picks for my closet, was actually struck by this model’s beauty situation. I LOVE the fresh, glossy skin with that dark red lip.
I plan to recreate with Nars’ Scarlett Empress lipstick ($28) and my favorite beauty secret, RMSBeauty’s Living Luminizer ($38). I use the latter to blend in with concealer and smooth over my cheekbones, browbone, and nose for a little glossiness. I like it because it’s not tinted — it just blends in with whatever color you have going on.
You may have gathered that I’m a big fan of statement earrings (hello, LesBonBons). For awhile, big necklaces were all the rage but now it’s all about the ear gems. And I think I may have found my new obsession: Hart Hagerty’s tassels ($48 each). Love the price, love the colors. I need those antique pink babies.
I have been seriously into ponchos this season — so easy, so great for transitional weather — and this plaid style from Loft ($79) had to happen.
The above would look PERFECT with skinnies and a statement shoe, like these Loeffler Randall mocs ($295). If those are a little steep in price for your blood, go with a classic Minnetonka pair ($44).
Ladeeez, I love a dramatic lash situation. If I could only have one cosmetic for the rest of my life, it would definitely, 100% be mascara. I’m going to #humblebrag and say that I have pretty long, dark natural lashes but I love to amp it up. I like a big dose of mascara.
I’ve actually been cheating and getting eyelash extensions for the past few months — they are THE BEST. OMG. You have to find a good spot so you don’t end up with creepy, super-fake-looking tarantula lashes, but if you find a reputable aesthetician, they are the best thing in the world. You wake up looking stunning every morning. And you don’t need mascara, which is kind of rad — no smeary eyes. But, you’ve got to take a break from those bad boys every now and then because they are really tough on your lashes. People CLAIM that you can wear them for years on end, but they lie. Your natural lashes will fall out faster with them on. Of course, they grow back, but it’s still not a good look to have piecey lashes (gross). For those of you curious about trying them, let me share a few notes: 1) it’s an expensive habit. It’s usually around $200 for a “full set” (first application) and then $100 or so per refill, and they’ll tell you that you need a refill every 3 weeks or so. $$$$. You can usually go a little longer between refills, but then your lashes can start falling out and your look can be a little…janky. I just fill mine in with mascara and it’s NBD but still. 2) it’s a little weird the first time you go — they tape down your lower lashes, which feels weird, and then you lay on a bed for like an hour while someone meticulously attaches extensions to your natural lashes. It doesn’t hurt, but it takes a long time and my neck always fall asleep, which feels horrible. 3) you NEED to give your lashes a break every few months, IMHO. I have heard horror stories about people losing most of their lashes! AHHH! I sort of think of it like gel manicures — go for a few rounds and then let your natural nails breathe.
AT ANY RATE. I’m on a break from extensions, and I miss them horribly, so I’m playing around with new mascaras. My favorite of all time is Dior’s DiorShow ($28). My sisters and I swear by this brand for long, dramatic lashes. I like it because you can do a light application for a more natural look or load it on for major drama, and it never gets clumpy. I’ve also rotated Too Faced’s Better Than Sex ($23) into play every now and then — it gives a really full lash, but it does flake a little bit when dry. But I got a sample of Lancome’s Definicils ($27) and was REAL impressed. Going to give this a try for awhile.
Who says florals aren’t for fall? I was inspired by these two street style looks (also, note the Gucci bag in the second snap — SO GOOD):
And accordingly was delighted to snag this $26 floral pintuck dress! I plan to wear it with my suede Stuart Weitzman OTKs ($800) for a fresh fall look.
