Preppy Getaway.

Looking at my last two posts, I was inspired to envision a little combo of the two: the prepster getaway.  When I was little, my parents jetted off to Bermuda, a blur of Lacoste polos and khaki shorts, like any good 80s couple would.  This post is, roughly, an homage to what I imagine them wearing in the chicest decade in recent history.   (I seriously loved the 80s — I love that the 80s had a serious point of view, and made big and bold the norm rather than a fringe movement.  The 90s were OK; I mean, at least the 90s had A Look.  (A waif-like, minimalist look.)  The early 00s make me want to barf.  Is one generation really going to be remembered by graphic tees from Abercrombie + Fitch, cargo pants, and the pointed toe heel peeking out beneath bootcut jeans?!  Sick.)  At any rate, here’s a modern take on the 80s prepster on vacation: tortoise-shell Ray-Bans ($165); denim button down ($78); white cut-offs (J. Brand, on sale for $62); Tod’s ($445):

Throw it all on over this adorable bikini from new line Solid + Striped ($200):

Other must-haves: Persol shades ($400 — Mr. Magpie lives in his, but they look great on gals too), an array of Lacoste polos ($89) with denim shorts (OK, these are a contemporary take on the look — Rag + Bone, $155):

Finish with metallic Supergas (on sale for $84) and a vintage Goyard:

Unsure about those Supergas?  I was, too…but I’ve gradually come to realize that lots of chic ladies rock.them.out., and I want to follow suit (badly).  I’m torn between the classic black ($65) or the cheery red ($65).

Bon voyage!
