Out of Texica.

One of my absolute favorite movies (and soundtracks!) growing up was Out of Africa.  I doubt I understood it, and it’s certainly a strangely sophisticated (entirely instrumental…) soundtrack to favor as a child, but my parents were huge fans and I absorbed it through them.  Meryl Streep and Robert Redford are absolutely BAES — they are gorgeous and their wardrobes are insanity.  And who can resist the gorgeousness of the famous plane scene?  That music, that romance, that view!  But guys…Meryl Streep’s wardrobe.  The linen, the fitted suiting, the army green, the windswept hair, the mud-stained cheek.  She is BEYOND.

And if you’re wondering about the title of this post: my baby sister for some reason called this movie “Out of Texica” — I’m not sure if she’d just heard about the state of Texas or something, but it’s always stuck in my memory.

I don’t know if it’s partly influenced by Kanye West’s Yeezy 2016 collection (which…well, I know his stuff has suffered its fair share of derision, but I kinda don’t hate it. Simple, basic, kinda 90s rad.) or what, but I’ve been all about the safari-chic trend for years and it’s just resurfaced with particular abandon this season.  How’s this for inspiration?

I recently snagged this midi shirt dress ($138) in olive green and it is PERFECTION.  It looks incredible with a textured, pointed toe flat or flat leather sandal (I just invested in these).  And I don’t plan on stopping here.  Some other items on my radar:

+Linen skirt ($59).

+Chino shirt dress ($128).

+Trench dress ($149).

+Quilted bomber jacket ($69) — have you noticed bombers are the new new?

+Tassel backpack ($495).

+Brushed twill skinnies ($195 — or, for something even more dressed down, these).

+Washed cotton twill skirt ($98 — love the bow at the waist! — or go high end with these Pucci version).

+Incredible linen jumper ($740).

+Utility swing jacket ($69) — I can decide if I want the army green, the tan, or the white!)

+Major maxi dress ($298).  Or get the look for less with this.

+Linen blazer ($168).

+Belted shirt dress ($328).
