Mommy + Me.

The Fashion Magpie Mommy and Me 1

I am dying to get my hands on a copy of photographer Claiborne Swanson Frank’s new book, Mother and Child.  In it, Frank explores “what modern motherhood means in the 21st century” — and rounds up some drop-dead gorgeous mom-and-child duos to do it.  (Hint: this would be a great mother’s day gift — as would a pretty scarf.)

In preparation for Mother’s Day, I’ve been on the hunt for a pretty coordinating mommy-and-me fashion statement for the two of us to twin in.  A couple of favorites I’ve landed upon:

+The dream would be this floaty boho skirt for me and this precious matching dress for her.  (Moda Operandi has a whole mom-child collection that is too freaking adorable — but I am OBSESSED with this set from LoveShackFancy; I need it, and I need to wear it while frolicking in a meadow.)

+You can also always lift elements from different places — like take Moda Operandi’s darling polka dot trimmed Johanna Ortiz for babes dress but instead of splurging on the mama version for yourself, buy this less expensive polka dotted top from Need Supply (which is very Johanna Ortiz inspired!) in order to coordinate.

+For a look that’s not too on-the-nose/matchy-match: this dress for mamas, and this dress for babies.

+For matching Mother’s-Day-Morning-Pancakes-in-Bed jammies: these and these, or these and these.

+For a splurge, this stunning dress from up-and-coming label Emilia Wickstead, and this for minis.

+Lilly never gets old for me: I like this traditional style for mama and this one for mini.

+At the beach: this star-print caftan for mom, and this one for baby.  For swimwear: this for mom, and this for baby.

+I like a lot of the boho mommy-and-me looks here.

+Doen has some gorgeous children’s dresses that don’t exactly match the adult collection, but feel well-coordinated, like this and this.

+This and this.

+Or just do matching sneakers — these and these would be darling whether your have a boy or girl.

+I’m dying over these mules for mama and these flats for baby.  (Or, if you own the Gucci Princetowns, these for your mini-me.)

+For mama, and for baby (I DIE!)

P.S.  Are you kidding me with these daddy-son swim trunks?!  Too darling.

P.P.S.  Thoughts on matrescence!

P.P.P.S.  My absolute favorite post I’ve ever written about minimagpie.
