We have been working with Kelley Proxmire on the interior design of our home for the past few months. Her taste is exquisite and I especially love her eye for pattern and color. I could spend hours poring over her Instagram account. I have always loved interior design, and before we’d engaged Kelley, I had enjoyed tracking down fantastic pieces myself. Below, some absolutely fabulous, generally well-priced, and smartly-designed pieces for home.

BALLARD DESIGNS ATOLL MIRROR. I just ordered this mirror for myself after eyeing it for probably three or four years. It has such a fun, dramatic frame.

WILLIAMS-SONOMA SPINDLE CHAIR. One of the pieces I’m most excited about in our newly redesigned family room is a spindle chair similar to the one seen here that Kelley is having upholstered in a dramatic blue gingham. I love the spindle detail. So chic!

POTTERY BARN SEAGRASS SORTING BASKET. A longtime Magpie favorite — great for toys, recycling, hobby gear, etc.

ANNIE SELKE HERRINGBONE RUG. Annie Selke makes the best reasonably-priced area rugs for high traffic zones in the house. I’ve bought several of hers and am consistently impressed with quality and design (so many fun patterns!) relative to price. This herringbone one is a classic.

SERENA + LILY DRIFTWAY DRESSER. I have loved this dresser for years and finally bought it in our New York apartment. It is a dream. Super wide and just a delight to look at with those brass pulls and the dramatic raffia finish. I’m obsessed with it still! Adds great texture contrast to any bedroom.

MIELE C1 CANISTER VACUUM. The absolute best vacuum out there. I grew to hate the rechargeable cordless ones — I always felt like they lost charge at the most inconvenient times. This one has a very long cord and the base rolls around on wheels so it’s a breeze to use. It has a button you press to retract the cord so no tangling it up on a spool. Beyond that, it’s powerful and works great on hard wood floors as well as carpets and even upholstery (different settings for all). This European brand is known for great appliances. This vacuum is one of my favorite buys of the past five or six years.

LAURA DAVIDSON SOHO DESK CHAIR. I bought this on the good word of another interior designer who said this is the chicest desk chair at the best price — and she was right! It is under $300 and I sit in it happily, comfortably daily. So many of the desk chairs out there are these hideous half-mesh black monstrosities. I think this one looks great, and feels great, too!

ADDISON ROSS WASTE BASKETS. I’ll need to do a whole post on wastebaskets because good ones can be hard to find, but I recently discovered this brand and love the scallop trim and bold colors. Fun!

ANNIE SELKE POPPY RUG. Another great pattern from the aforementioned Annie Selke — this one is SO fun and gives me Missoni vibes.

OOMPH TINI TABLES. My MIL and I are obsessed with this brand and often forward each other their latest and greatest. I have wanted one of their tini tables forever and am hoping to snag one for our living room (alongside an upholstered armchair)! The perfect size for a cup of coffee, or a glass of wine.

UMBRELLA STAND. I have ordered this three times. My dog has literally knocked it over twice, shattering it, and still I order it again (just repositioned its location further from the door). I love the look of this ginger jar inspired pattern mixed in with my other belongings. It makes me happy every time I leave home! Under $100!

CRATE AND BARREL SAWYER LEANING BOOKSHELVES. I’ve written extensively about these but they are so well priced and smartly-designed. We had them in our NYC apartment flanking our media console and I swear they almost looked like built-ins, but — thanks to the open siding — did not block out much light, which is crucial in a small space. We’ve now reassigned them to our children’s bedrooms (one in each) but my plan is to eventually move them into my writing studio once we buy the children proper desks and bookshelves that coordinate fully with their rooms.

SERENA AND LILY COMO BEDSIDE LAMP. This has been a Magpie bestseller this year — and with good reason. It’s the perfect size and style in the ambient raffia-forward coastal vibe that we all love so much. If you like the look but it’s out of budget, take a gander at Target, which has a few similar styles (swapping the raffia for rattan). I recently bought a pair of these for our guest bedroom — it’s going to be awhile before we have Kelley get started up there, so I needed something reasonably priced and quick ship for some out of town guests. These are perfect!

QILLOWAY INDOOR/OUTDOOR CUSHIONS. We inherited a huge outdoor rattan couch and chair set that is perfect on our back patio, but the cushions were a hideous, dated floral. I found these on Amazon and I can’t tell you how happy I am with them. The piping looks fresh and smart, and these have performed better than the expensive Sunbrella cushions we bought for our dining set at the other end of the deck!

QUADRILLE THROW PILLOW. You can find the best throw pillows in designer fabrics on Etsy! Love this Quadrille one! This Sister Parish print is also fabulous for mixing.

P.S. Closet organization favorites.

P.P.S. Chic kitchen accessories. (Or, if it’s more to your taste, finds inspired by French kitchens.)

P.P.P.S. My favorite French potato salad recipe.
