Fun fact: neither my mother nor my father own a pair of jeans. It honestly boggles my brain to envision either of them duding around in denim — they’re both far too formal. I, on the other hand, live and breathe in jeans. Quite the jean-eration gap. HAHAHA. Dumb.
Anyway, all bad puns aside, today, I thought it appropriate to finally pay homage to the fabric of my life. Though I clearly am a skinny jean kinda gal, I’ve slowly been enticed by some of the boot cuts and wider leg styles coming back en vogue. Check out these trouser-style jeans (Tibi, $285, Net-A-Porter). Perfect with an airy voile top with something of a hippie vibe ($225, Calypso) and some big studs (Kenneth Jay Lane, $75, Net-A-Porter):
Finish with some brown leather wedges ($89, Zara):
On the weekends, I’m all about chambray button-downs and tunics, like this style ($59, J. Crew), which I’d pair with leggings, a gauzy scarf (DVF, $250, Shopbop), and some mocs (I’m not sure the pricing on these puppies, but I just discovered them via Dee Keller!)
I’d finish with an easy carry-all (this clean white style startled me with its design — loves — $386, See Vivier):
Alternately, go with the tangerine tango color by sporting this unbelievable open-weave lace top (Sass & Bide, $840, Net-A-Porter), enorma-studs ($770, Sue Fisher King), white skinnies, and these bad.ass. denim wedges (Chloe, $895, Net-A-Porter)
Kind of bomb with these bold, patterned clutcheroo ($235, Not Just a Label):
Or, how about this checked blouse ($140, Aubin and Wills) with a collarless boucle jacket (Zac Posen, on sale for $712, The Outnet — or get the look for less with this $89 Zara style), a tangly pearl necklace ($195, Juliet and Company), skinnies, and some spiffy flats (Kate Spade, $225, Bloomingdales):
I’d finish with a contrasting-colored cross-body ($238, J. Crew):
Finally, a few separates to put a little pep in your step — first, a denim blazer (I wear mine all.the.time, though mine cost only $29 at H&M! — ACNE, $530, Net-A-Porter):
And PSST. If the blazer ain’t yo thang, check out this affordable ($74!) anorak variation! Other possibilities? An inexpensive denim clutch (love the fiery red zipper — $27, Motel Rocks) or a frilly denim top ($214, Farfetch) —
— either of which would look unbelievable with these blush-and-tangerine wedges ($99, Zara):
Ahhh, denim. Endlessly versatile and fresh-looking. I’m loving it in the mid-blue color at the moment…
