On Labor Day, it was hot and sunny.
The next day, the mercury had dropped 20 degrees and we had to wear sweaters on our morning traipse around the neighborhood.
Things are changing all around me these days. Why does it leave me so sentimental?
Oh, yes. I had a baby and have never been more keenly aware of the passage of time.
To celebrate, though: more fall fashion picks I’d love to make my own, this time in a blush/tan color palette — sort of unexpected for autumn, but so what? — inspired by these beauties:
Pick No. 1: The Quilted Burberry Coat
Ever since snagging minimagpie’s winter coat (this and all of my other favorite fall picks for her here), I’ve sorta kinda wanted to snag one for myself. I know these coats have been around for ages and there was a time just after college where I could hardly walk a city block in Georgetown without seeing 23 girls in them, but don’t you just kind of love it in that dusty rose color ($595)?
Pick No. 2: The Scarf Print Dress
Loving this cheeky little scarf print monkey dress ($35). This is the kind of thing I’d layer over black tights, with black booties.
Pick No. 3: The Leather Sneaks
I’m a huge fan of my canvas Supergas, but what about sneakers in a fall-appropriate fabric? These leather Lanvins ($650) are drool-worthy. Imagine with an all-black-everything-else outfit and an oversized, slouchy, blush tote (a girl can dream…)? You can get the look for less with these or these.
Pick No. 4: The Wool/Cashmere Turtleneck
I have a few camel-colored sweaters that I have worn probably 398928398 times. So versatile! This wool-cashmere blend style ($155) from Cuyana would be a total workhorse in my closet. I love the idea of wearing something classic and timeless and Diane Keaton-esque like this with some light-wash distressed denim for a little mix n match situation. (Get the look for less with this.)
Pick No. 5: The Statement Dress
I love the vintage-yet-not vibe of this Self-Portrait dress with those gauzey sleeves ($340). I’ve been growing out my bob and have been contemplating getting bangs again. I feel like this dress with some blunt bangs and stick straight hair would look muy bien.
Pick No. 6: The Statement Heel
You know my weakness for impractical shoes. 10 times out of 10 I will buy the impossibly high heel that I will only be realistically able to wear a handful of times instead of the boring black boot that I will wear into the ground. What can I say. It’s me. And this Alexandre Birman heel ($695) has my number. Can someone please invite me to a winter wedding? Pls and thank you.
Pick No. 7: The Button-Down
Maybe it’s the East Coast all-girls-school-prepster in me, but I’ve been partial to Ralph Lauren’s oxfords since I was about 12 (and while we’re on the topic, they rank among my top ten wardrobe essentials). I love layering them under everything from sweatshirts to traditional cable knit sweaters, and pairing them with everything from J. Crew chino shorts to distressed denim.
Pick No. 8: The Retro-Style Fleece
Believe it or not, there is a sporty chick in this little Magpie, and I don’t mind a little athletic wear for my 3-mile morning walks (more on my daily schedule here). This retro-style zip-up fleece by Penfield looks perfect ($160) for those daily strolls! (I also love this vest.)
Pick No. 9: The Floral Dress
I know I’ve mentioned it before on this little bloglet, but I can’t get over this floral dress from Veronica Beard ($495). So elegant and chic. (You can get the look for less with this.)
Pick No. 10: The Blush Blouse
This bow-front blouse (on sale for $47) has my name written all over it.
